What lesson did she teach? She didn’t even know herself, Roland didn’t do a very good job of anything really, so it was hard to tell. ‘I dabble in a bit of everything,’ she grinned, an easy white lie that he wouldn’t need to know about. Then the smile on her lips widened, but she tried to keep it from enveloping her whole face. It was only her second day in Baltimore and she was already getting chatted up by strangers.
‘My names Gracey,’ she tried to put on a smooth, seductive voice, but she simply gave a croak at the end, and had to clear her throat. ‘But you can just call me Grace, everyone else does..’ she trailed off for a moment, watching the lollipop stick wiggling around. Then she heard a car, and she frowned slightly. Why did he have to turn up now? She was surrounded by them, blocked in. Marlo by her side, Roland behind her, and Luke now pulling up in the car park, ready to take her away from her new stranger.
'Yeah, I do. I have a brother, Luke. He's over there actually,' she pointed a hand at the shining BMW.
‘Oi, just be lucky you still have an arm. If he’d a shot you a few inches to the right, you could a lost the whole thing. Fuck me, you could a died. So if I was you, I’d stop whining, and just stand the pain,’
‘I still think you’re a fool,’ Partlow told her, shaking his head as Snoop admitted that she loved her friend. ‘If you think about it, you jumpin’ in was dumb… if you’d a died.. It a killed her, and that’d wipe out your whole reason of doing it - not wanting her to get hurt,’ The door then opened, and Luna stood frozen, eyes blazing like a deer in the head lights.
‘Yo, I aint gonna hurt no one,’ he raised his hand in surrender, to show he didn’t mean any harm by it. His eyes glanced towards the clock and he frowned, before glancing out of the window at the busy street ‘Look, I gotta get outa ‘ere, Marlo’s gonna wonder where I’ve gone. Just… lay low for a while, okay? Both of yer,’ giving a nod towards Luna, he moved out of the open door, and passed to the lift.
Grace was seemingly on edge now, unsure what anyone was going to do. Then Marlo asked for her number, and she tilted her head slightly as she heard Roland speak. No. No? Did he ask him? No, Marlo asked her. How dare he answer her questions. She was a grown up, she could do what she liked. Turning away from Roland, she grabbed a pen out of her bag, lifted Marlo’s hand, and scrawled down her number, before jumping at the impatient Luke. He hit his horn twice, and waved a hand to show he wanted to get a move on. Flashing one last smile at Marlo, Grace darted across the car park, and jumped into the BMW, where Luke met her with a glare.

Marlo gave a grin. ‘Dabble, huh? You must be very talented,’ he complimented. ‘I was never that good at school. Dropped out early. Sometimes wished I hadn’t,’ he told her, keeping the conversation flowing. There was a smile on her lips that just made him grin and he gave a small laugh and glanced away. Even at moments like this, he had to keep a cool face on. If anyone passed them, they’d be quick to use it against them.
‘Grace,’ he mused, rolling the word around and deciding he liked it a lot. He noticed her frown and glanced sideways, noticing the BMW and the man in it. Ah, yes. How could he forget?
‘Luke?’ he asked. ‘Luke. Does he have a last name?’ he asked, grinning back at her. His eyes fell to her hands for a moment; no ring. Even better.
--
Snoop nodded. ‘I guess so,’ she agreed, getting to her feet and pacing a little as she listened to him. ‘Well, I didn’t, okay? Let us just be thankful for that. I didn’t die and we’re both okay. For now. Watch your own back, Chris, cause he’ll probably recruit you wit’ some stupid little kid as a sidekick instead of me. Probably O Dog or somethin’, seeing as he can’t get Michael.’
She paused for a moment. ‘Shit, think he’ll try and get to Michael? He knows Luna’s his sister.’ Snoop glanced up, watching as Luna entered. Luna sighed, bfore nodding at Partlow.
‘Only if you’re sure,’ she said, watching as he glanced at the window, before saying he had to go. ‘Bye,’ she said as he passed and then it was her and Snoop alone in the quiet apartment. God, it felt so awkward. She gave her a hesitant smile, before moving to sit down. She picked up her cup. Her tea had cooled a little, so she drank it down as something to do and also as an excuse not to say anything yet.
‘Are you hungry...?’ she asked, setting down her cup and looking at Snoop.
--
Mr Prezbo sighed. ‘Look, Grace,’ he said, putting a hand on her arm. ‘That really isn’t a good idea,’ he murmured, trying to make her see sense. He knew exactly why she was doing this. But, it was too late. She whipped out a pen and was already writing her number on the back of his hand in her delicate writing. Marlo smiled, her small hand holding onto his and it was nice and warm. Roland sighed. ‘Don’t be stupid,’ he murmured. Before Grace moved away, Marlo took her hand and leaned forward, placing a kiss on her cheek.
‘Nice meeting you,’ he smiled, watching her go. He raised his hand in a wave, but his eyes were on Luke. Suddenly, things had gotten interesting. ‘I’d get out of here, before I call the cops, Marlo,’ Roland said in a firm voice. Marlo glanced at him, raising an eyebrow. ‘Or what? You’ll spank my legs?’ He stepped forward into Prezbo’s face. ‘I know who you are. You’re that cop who shot another cop.’ He chuckled at the look on his face. ‘Ah, I’m right. Now you’re here teaching kids who don’t want to learn. Nice try,’ he scoffed, before taking a step back. He spat his lolly stick out at Prezbo, before turning and slipping into his car and speeding off.
Mr P shook his head and sighed, watching as the car disappeared around the corner.

‘Don’t give me that look,’ Grace warned, pulling on her seatbelt, and fiddling with the radio, so as she didn’t have to listen to Luke. After all the years of covering for him while he was on dates, keeping Mom at bay while he had sex, and hiding the girls when Mom came home early; he had no right to. She could talk to who she wanted, and go on dates with who she wanted, it wasn’t as if he was her Dad. Finding a station, she simply turned her head slightly, and glared at the side of Luke’s head. ‘If you’re allowed to fuck Luna, I’m allowed to have Marlo,’ she said simply. And Luke said nothing, he simply stared ahead at the road, fingers gripping tight into the steering wheel. She wouldn’t listen; she was stubborn. She had always been that way, and he’d not be able to change her mind. He’d just… watch her back for a while. If Marlo wanted to get his girls, he wasn’t going to let him have them that easily. He’d find a way to stop this. He had too. Pulling down the sun blocker, Grace examined her face in the small mirror. Turning her head to the side, she looked at the spot on her cheek where Marlo had kissed her. But then her hand fell down to her lips, she placed her finger on the corner, before running it over the gloss coated skin. Roland. Was an idiot. She added, hastily wiping the thought away. As Luke opened the door to the apartment, his eyes instantly fell onto Snoop, her arm bandaged and bloody. Marlo. Luna and Snoop were seemingly entranced in an odd silence. Only then did Grace see what was on Snoops arm; a bandage? She turned her eyes towards Luke, but he had already shouldered past her, and was getting a drink from the fridge. 'What the hell happened to her arm?!' she demanded, pointing towards Snoop, and not even thinking of asking the girl herself. Luna and Luke shared a worried look. They hadn't thought of an excuse, well... he hadn't really thought Grace was going to find out. Oh, for gods sake, was he stupid!? Opening his mouth, Luke hesitated, before stuttering an answer 'She... Sh -er, had a...' his eyes looked towards Snoop, and it clicked 'She had a tattoo removed,' he said, nodding at the answer. Yes. She should believe that. Shouldn't she? Grace stared for a moment, examining the girls other tattoos, before she gave a nod of belief. It was probably a name of an ex boyfriend. How stupid people were to have that done, she thought, feigning a smirk as she turned to go to the bathroom for a fresh shower 'Just don't let her bleed on my new sofa,-' 'Yours! Oi, I brought it!' Luke called back to her, but she simply stuck her tongue out before shutting the bathroom door and disappearing. 'Close shave?' Luke irked an eyebrow at Luna, before cracking open his drink and taking a sip. --- 'How about we play a game?' Luke suggested, placing his drink down on the table and stretching out in the chair, feet crossed over one another. 'I think we have scrabble in one of the unopened boxes..' Scrabble? What was wrong with him? He cursed himself mentally, but still held a positive smile as he looked towards the two girls. The silence, he hated it. Silence was horrible. At one point he even thought of putting the news on just as something to do. But the news was sad, and Grace would know it was on, and she'd turn it off. It scared her, with its speak of death and storms and bombings. There was a rumbling sound, and Luke jumped, glancing at the glass table to see Grace's phone vibrating; making its way down the table. There was a pause as everyone stared, before the bathroom door opened, and Grace darted out, wrapped in a pink fluffy towel. One hand holding onto the towel, she lunged forward and grabbed the mobile before Luke could even get from his seat. He wasn't answering it. He'd tell whoever it was to get lost. Keeping her cool, Grace flopped down on the chairs arm, and put it to her ear. 'Hello?' she asked, and suddenly a large smile crossed her lips. Marlo. Marlo! The man from school Marlo! The little kid inside her did back flips, and she gave a broad grin. MARLO!

Snoop glanced up as the door opened, half expecting someone else. Luke came in, following by the woman from before, who actually seemed to notice the bandage. She pulled a face, ready to say something in reply, but Luke butted in with some lame excuse about a tattoo. They were trying to cover it up? Snoop guessed the less people that knew the better. ‘Snoop, this is Grace. Grace, this is Snoop,’ Luna quickly introduced, before Grace disappeared. She sighed, giving Luke a small smile. ‘Can I speak to you?’ she asked Luke, before heading into the kitchen where they could talk quietly. Snoop glared at his back, before flicking through the TV channels. Nothing interested her, and she strained a little to hear what they were saying. ‘Are we okay?’ Luna asked. ‘Sorry about yesterday. And the gun this morning. I wasn’t thinking right.’ She shook her head, looking at the floor for a moment. ‘We’ll probably head back to my apartment at the end of the day. We can’t be sleeping on the sofa,’ Luna said, with a small laugh. ‘Thank you for everything you’ve done though,’ she said. Luna leaned up, placing a hand on his arm as she kissed his cheek. ‘Thanks,’ she added again. --
Marlo sat on a chair, the warm spring breeze brushing his cheeks and he gave a small, content sigh. Omar was locked up, for now, Partlow was off doing another job and there was no one driving past shooting. Other than the fact that Snoop had gone AWOL and Luna had ran off with some white boy named Luke, it was a pretty good day.
Grace. He allowed a brief smile to cross his face, before tugging his phone from his pocket. He glanced at his hand and dialled the number written there. It picked up after the third ring. Grace’s voice came down the line and Marlo slouched back in his chair. ‘Hey, it’s Marlo,’ he said. ‘I was just wondering if you were busy tonight or something. Thinking we could go out maybe? Dinner? What you think?’
Marlo was straight to the point, knowing there was no point in beating around the bush. Soon enough, he knew he could have Grace in the middle of his palm and having Grace meant getting closer to Luke, which would easily lead to Luna and then Snoop. He sat and waited to hear what she’d said. ‘Unless you have anything better to do...?’
--
Luna glanced at Luke when he suggested a game, trying to cover her laugh. ‘Scrabble?’ Snoop replied, raising her eyebrows. ‘Fuck, I’d rather rip myself a new hole thank you very much. Shit, is that all you do around here? Sit around playing chess and scrabble and whatever fucknut games they are?’ She sat back and folded her arms, silenced by the look Luna gave her.
‘I thought it was a nice thought,’ Luna said, looking at Luke. They never really got as far as deciding if they would play it, as Grace’s phone started to vibrate and the woman in question darted out the bathroom.
Snoop watched her as she snatched up the phone and sat down on the armchair, trying to hold up the towel. The beam that broke out over her face was sickening. ‘Who she talkin’ to? She got some fancy-ass boyfriend or something?’ Snoop shook her head and sighed.

Luke followed Luna into the kitchen, leaning against the worktop as she said that she needed a word. Were they alright? Yes. He supposed so. As long as that man didn’t come back and try and shoot off his ass. Then yes, they were dandy. The small smile that was on his lips faltered, oh. She was going home? He quite enjoyed it today when she woke him up with the offer of a cup of tea. But she was right, they couldn’t stay here forever.
‘I’ll be keeping an eye on you,’ he promised ‘I don’t want that nut coming back and hurting you.. Or Snoop, okay?’ Then her hand was on his arm, and she kissed his cheek, and he had to fight back all his urges not to grab her and kiss her. He simply nodded, unable to speak.
---
'...Thinking we could go out maybe? Dinner? What you think?’
Erm. Yes. Yes, and three times yes. God. She hadn’t enjoyed the company of a good man in ages. Well, she had, had that wine with Roland, but that wasn’t the same… they didn’t really talk about much. Although it didn’t seem that talking was the thing Roland was interested in. She momentarily scowled, only to be take away from the voice on the phone to glare at Snoop. Jealous bitch.
‘Nah, she aint,’ Luke muttered, pushing her off of his chair and simply glaring back as she spat daggers. ‘and she aint goanna have a boyfriend neither - its that twat from school, aint it? Go on… tell me its not-’
‘It aint your business,’ she told him, putting her hand over the phone so Marlo couldn’t hear. ‘I can do what I like-’
‘Not with him,’ he said, voice firm. Grace simply outstretched her middle finger, but Luke grabbed it and bent it back, a small gasp escaping her lips as he wouldn’t let go. ‘Tell him you can’t go-’ ‘You’re not my Dad!’ she told him, wrenching her finger back and moving into the kitchen where she began to speak once again. ‘I’d love to go. The sooner the better, I can’t wait to get out of this mad house,’ she flashed a look at all three, before turning back and looking at her reflection in the toaster.
'Who does she think she is?' Luke asked, looking towards Luna, as though she was going to agree with him. 'Maybe you can get her to change your mind... after all, you are a woman, you speak the same language, don't you?' he showed a look of up most seriousness. Then, before any of the three could say a word, the phone was down, and Grace pranced into her room to get changed.
'I'm going on a date,' she told them smugly.

Luna gave him a smile and nodding. ‘Good. I didn’t want any hard feelings,’ she told him, because Luke said about keeping an eye on her. She blushed, but grinned. ‘You don’t have to do that, Luke,’ she said. ‘You have a job and a life and I can’t take that up. I’ll keep an eye on Snoop and my brothers. You just... look after your sister, okay?’
She turned, looking at the floor as she left the room. He’d smelt of cologne and a male scent when she’d kissed him and it sent an odd thrill up her back. Then, she met Snoop’s glare; she’d seen, obviously. Luna shrugged and went to sit down. ‘You like him, huh?’ Snoop asked. ‘You think he’ll look after you?’ ‘Give over, Snoop,’ Luna muttered, shaking her head. ‘It wasn’t like that. I was just saying thank you.’ ‘Is that what they call it now?’
--
Marlo listened with a slight frown, listening to the noises in the background. It sounded like a man... Luke, maybe? By the sound of the hissed argument going on, they didn’t get on well. He knew that Marlo was on the phone and he defiantly didn’t want to Gracey to go on this date. Grace, herself, was stubborn and determined.
All this was going to work out amazingly, he thought to himself. The counterparts were all in place. He didn’t have to deal with Omar and his rivalry right now. The plan was set in motion and he was going with it.
‘Mad house?’ he chuckled smoothly when she came back. ‘Surely it ain’t that bad,’ he said, but sat up and grinned. ‘How about at six? Where shall I pick you up?’ He held his breath, hoping for some sort of information that would lead him to where Luke was.
--
Snoop caught the glare Grace flashed her and was instantly on her feet. Luna quickly got up, looking between them. ‘Leave it,’ she hissed. Luke seemed to take over anyway and with a growl, Snoop kicked herself back onto the sofa.
She hated it here. If she could be anywhere else, she would be. Why did she even need to stay anyway? She could hide out anywhere without Marlo finding her no problem.
Maybe she just didn’t trust Luke with Luna. She wouldn’t let them be alone. Not after seeing her kiss him. Snoop clenched her fists, glaring at the opposite wall. Fucking idiots. Who they think they are? At the corner of her eye, Luke and Grace were having a tiff, before Grace finally disappeared into the kitchen, but there was something in Luke’s voice that caught Snoop the most.
‘Not with him.’
She glanced up. Who? By the sound of his voice ‘him’ wasn’t nice. But, she didn’t ask, because Luna got there first. ‘Who is it?’ Luna frowned, glancing at the kitchen and then back at Luna. ‘Luke? Why change her mind?’ She frowned, but was interrupted by Grace flouncing back into the room. Luna got to her feet and gave a smile. ‘That’s great,’ she said, casting Luke a look. ‘Ignore him. Men don’t know anything. Do you want me to help pick you something out?’ she asked with a genuine smile.

‘No. You can meet me at my favourite bar,’ she told him, still examining herself in the toaster, before turning and twirling a strand of wet hair around her finger ‘It’s called Tommy’s bar.. - you know it? Good. Good. Okay… I’ll… see you then?’ suddenly she was nervous ‘Bye…’ pausing, she simply stared forward, before letting the phone go and placing it down on the kitchen counter.
‘Mhm? Just some twat that she met at school,’ he wasn’t going to tell her it was Marlo. Christ sake no, she’d throw a fit ‘probably a little kiddy perv,’ his voice was suddenly dark, his eyes boring into his sisters back as she made her way back to her room. But suddenly she stopped, turning at the sound of Luna’s voice. ‘You.. Want to help?’ she asked, voice shocked, she hesitated, watching her for a moment, before nodding and grabbed Luna’s hand. ‘Okay… well,…’ her voice trailed off as she took Luna into her room and shut the door. Leaving Snoop and Luke alone in the living room to talk. Ahah, Not likely.
‘I don’t have many dresses,’ she told Luna, clambering onto her bed so she could reach the top of her wardrobe. Pulling down a box, she placed it on the bed, before then opening the wardrobe doors and showing a small amount of other clothes. ‘The fancy clothes are in the box… anything else Daniel took to give to Debra,’ her mouth quivered into a growl, before she shook it away and shuffled through the wardrobe hangings ‘and all I have in here is an interview suit… some blouses, a couple of pencil skirts and some sweats,’ Pathetic, she thought. 'I could always go in my pyjamas?' she offered Luna a serious look, before flopping down onto her bed.

Marlo hesitated, annoyed that he couldn’t go to hers and see Luke for himself, but agreed. They’d be time for that later. ‘I know where it is. Catch you later,’ he smiled, before hanging up. He paused for a moment, before getting to his feet. ‘Get the car. I have somewhere to be.’
--
Luna raised her eyebrow at Luke’s answer, but didn’t comment, as Grace returned. When they’d gone, Snoop got to her feet. Her eyes were narrowed a little and she studied Luke for a moment.
‘Stay away from Luna, y’hear,’ she growled, voice low. ‘Cause she ain’t yours. She don’t need no good for nothing guy hanging around her like some lost puppy. I can look after her myself. I know her. You don’t. All you see is the pretty face.’ Snoop shook her head.
‘Tomorrow, me and Luna are goan leave and you don’t come near, understand white boy? I mean it. Just cause I’ve hurt my arm don’t mean I won’t fuck your shit up. Got that?’
--
Luna gave a smile, allowing Grace to lead her into the bedroom. She waited until Grace had gotten everything out and then flopped on the bed before she came forward. ‘Who’s Daniel?’ she asked curiously, glancing at Grace before lifting a dress from the box.
‘This is nice. You have a nice figure,’ she said, glancing at the older woman. She paused, then set the dress aside. She picked another from the box. ‘Though, this would look better. It brings the colour out in your eyes,’ she said. The dress was brown, blending nicely with Grace’s dark hair and hair. ‘What shoes do you have?’ she asked, laying the dress neatly on the bed.
She frowned, turning to look in the wardrobe. ‘You need some colour too,’ Luna added. ‘Do you have a small green bag or something?’ When she’d gotten the outfit ready, she gave Grace a grin. ‘So, what’s his name?’ she asked. ‘He must be nice. You’ve not stopped blushing since the phone call,’ she smiled, bending to pick up a pair of brown shoes from the bottom of the wardrobe. ‘Try these.’

Once the door was shut, Snoop was on her feet, and coming threateningly close to Luke. The man didn’t move though, he wasn’t scared, not of her, he knew she wouldn’t do anything with Luna in the next room. He just stood and took what she had to say, before he shook his head and gave a short laugh. Was she serious? This was the second time he’d been threatened from seeing Luna. Did no one understand? It wasn’t up to them. If he liked Luna, then he liked Luna, no skanky ass bitch was going to change that, or those little stupid kids for the matter.
‘What kind of person do you think I am?’ giving her a look to show her he didn’t even want an answer ‘I aint interested in her face, alright, yeah… she’s fuckin’ gorgeous, but I aint’ wanting her just so I can get in her pants, alright? Fuck me, you were friends like ten years ago, yeah? Don’t you think its time you give up the protective act? She can look after herself. And if she wants to see me, well… you aint goanna stop her,’ he glared hard at her for a moment, before Graces bedroom door opened once more, and the girls had an outfit.
Grace shrugged as Luna commented on her lack of colour ‘As I said, Daniel took most of the pretty things - Hey, how about we go shopping sometime?’ she offered a small smile, if Luke and Luna were going to date… they might as well get along. Rolling onto her stomach, she pulled a plastic box out from under the bed, tugged off the lid and revealed a green dress and pencil skirt wrapped in plastic so it didn’t get stained.
‘I took this one though… I wasn’t going to let him have it,’ she smiled lightly, showing the dress towards Luna, before pulling off the wrapping and laying it on top of the brown dress. Bending down again, she pulled a cardboard box out of the tub and placed it on the bed, waiting for Luna to open it. When she did, she revealed a black pair of heels, a cut out at the bottom so you could see the toes. ‘They were an early wedding present from a friend,’ she told Luna, before swinging her feet around and slipping one on. ‘I fell in love with them, Daniel can go die if he thinks Debra’s having these,’ she smirked.
When the two opened the door, Grace faltered behind a bit, she kept running back and glancing at herself in the mirror. She hoped she looked alright. Not too fat. Not too dressed up. Not too casual. Not too dressed up. Her hair was pushed up in a clip little bits falling down the side of her face, but not messy, just right. 'Say a word, and I'll kill you,' she warned Luke, the man standing and staring at her, awe struck. What the hell was she wearing? Marlo would have a fucking feast! Grace nearly jumped out of her skin as Luna put her hands on her neck, tying something around her. 'What're you doing?' she asked nervously.

Snoop shook her head. ‘You shut the fuck up. Stay away from her. I mean it.’ She backed off, pacing for a moment. ‘You think this is some kind of overprotective act? She was mine before you even got a look at her,’ she snapped. ‘She won’t want to see you anyway,’ she muttered before slumping down. There wasn’t anything to do other than slump down. Already, she was sick of this place. She needed to get out of here. Then, Luna and Grace came out and even Snoop had to admit she looked okay. Not like she was going to say it out loud.
Not after the look Grace had been giving her. She looked at the TV which was playing a music video on mute. When Grace left, Snoop glanced at Luna. ‘Can we get out of this place? Just for a bit? I’m trippin’ in here.’ Luna glanced at Luke, before looking at Snoop, nodding. ‘Alright. Not too far though.’ Snoop shrugged, getting to her feet and grabbing her coat. She shrugged into it, not letting her pain from her arm show, before opening the door.
Luna glanced at Luke, smiled and followed Snoop out.
--
Luna gave a small gasp as Grace pulled out the dress. ‘It’s beautiful,’ she grinned. ‘Your ex didn’t sound very nice. He took your things and gave them to his new girlfriend?’ She shook her head. ‘That’s messed up.’
Luna waited until she’d dressed, before helping her clip up her hair. Then, she frowned, following Grace out of the room. There was something missing... Ah, yes! Luna reached around her neck and took off the necklace she was wearing beneath Snoop’s. She followed Grace, leaning up to put it around her neck and do it up at the back.
‘Just putting this on you,’ she laughed, turning Grace around to make sure she’d gotten it on properly. ‘You look great,’ she grinned. ‘Knock him dead!’ Luna grinned, impressed at how great Grace looked. Snoop hadn’t said a word and Luke looked like he was stuck between awe and fury at the situation.
Luna nudged his side and laughed. ‘She’ll be fine,’ she smiled. ‘He sounds nice.’ She watched as Grace left, before glancing at Snoop.
--
Marlo stood outside Tommy’s, wearing a white shirt and trousers. He looked alone, but only he knew his men were stood nearby, keeping watch. Then, he caught sight of her up ahead. There was no mistaking her. She really was breathtaking, her hair clipped up, strands framing her face and he couldn’t help but smile as she approached.
‘Grace,’ he greeted. ‘I’m glad you could make it.’ He gestured to the bar. ‘Nice place. You come here often?’ Placing a hand on the small of her back, he steered her inside, eyes glancing around the bar, but there was no one he knew here. They moved to the bar, taking seats on stools. He pulled some notes from his pockets.
‘What are you drinking?’ he asked, looking across at her. His eyes scanned her face, before looking her up and down again, appreciative. This girl knew how to dress, he thought. ‘It was good of you to come out with me tonight,’ he said, eyes flickering back up to her face. ‘Not knowing me an’ all.’ He waved his hand at the bartender, before ordering their drinks. When he returned, he pushed Grace’s towards her and took a drink from his pint.
He didn’t speak for a moment, before looking at Grace again. ‘The guy earlier... why’d he protest? He your ex or something?’ he asked, referring to Mr Prezbo. ‘Cause I don’t want some drunken guy ruining our thing tonight,’ he joked lightly. ‘Or your brother? He sounded a little...’ he paused. ‘Angered, on the phone. Was there a problem?’

Grace was standing up, leaning herself against the bar, for she knew if she didn’t, she’d loose balance and flop face first to the ground. She had a drink in her hand, a funny pink drink, with a green straw inside, and an odd bit of lemon on the side. Why did people do that? Put lemon on the side? You didn’t eat it, and the juice just went up your nose when you took a sip.
She turned to look towards Marlo, her hair had flopped down on one side, and it was shading her left eye, but her other side was left propped up, giving good show to the necklace Luna had let her borrow. Looking down at the necklace, she frowned, thinking of Luna, and thinking of Luke ‘My Brothers a wanker,’ she muttered, voice slurred, all the words mashed together so it was hard to make out what she was saying. ‘He said I shouldn’t come tonight… But I say, if he can fuck Luna then I can fuck you…’ she paused for a moment, not even thinking about what she had just said. Lifting her drink, she took a sip through the straw, before placing the glass back down and slipping onto her stool.
Almost missing it, she grabbed onto Marlo’s leg, steadying her so she didn’t slip onto her bum. ‘He’s just as bad as Roland. Two Jealous fuckers,’ she started up again, not realising how much swearing she had done, and how un lady like it was. ‘See, Roland kissed me, and that was just messed up, I mean I work for him for fucks sake, it aint right is it?’ she looked to Marlo, but didn’t even wait for an answer as she continued
‘and then he goes and tells me not to see you too, what is this? What the hells happened to free speech… wait, is that what I mean? No, freedom to think fir yourself… No, do you know what I mean? I bet you do… Because you,’ she poked him in the chest ‘Understand, me’ she pointed towards herself, and slipped back on the chair, banging into a person that was on the next stool. ‘Oi, mate do you mind?’ she asked, spinning around in her chair to look at a blond haired man ‘You just knocked into me,’ The man blinked a couple of times ‘I think you’re drunk love-’ ‘Don’t tell me what I am,’ she warned him, trying to get up from her seat, she’d show him. She’d hit him. Yes. That’d teach him.
But as she got up, she simply flopped over her stool, and the man turned away, un interested, and un amused. An old feeling squirmed in her stomach, and Grace had to fight the urge not to throw up. Damn, how many drinks had she had? Shaking off Marlo, she got up again, holding onto her stool, she tapped on the mans shoulder, but he simply ignored her, his girlfriend shooting her a glare.
‘Fuck off, drunk bitch,’ she hissed, taking a sip of her posh champagne and grabbing her boyfriends wrist, taking him away. Sighing, Grace slumped her shoulders and rubbed her tired eyes ‘I need to go home,’ she mumbled, swallowing again ‘I don’t feel to good,’ moving her way around the tables, she bumped her hips with a few of them, disturbing drinks and soaking customers and wetting people, but she didn’t stop. Once she got to the doors, she groaned and began pushing it, but it wouldn’t open. She pushed harder, it still wouldn’t open. Only then did her drunken gaze find the sign Pull. Idiot. Pulling it open, she caught her foot on the door and stumbled forward.

Luna and Snoop walked down the road, hoods up so no one could see who they were, silently for a few moments, watching as the cars passed, headlights blaring. Then, Luna sighed and stopped. ‘Snoop, we need to talk,’ she said. Snoop turned back to her.
‘About?’
‘Us.’ The word was simple. But untrue.
‘There is no us,’ Snoop replied, turning back to her. ‘Us died when you left. And us is still dead because you have Luke.’ Luna pulled a face. ‘Will you give over with me and Luke? We’re not even anything at the moment. I’ve known him all of fucking two days, Felicia.’ ‘Yo, you’re using my first name,’ Snoop sniped back sarcastically. ‘You must mean business.’ Luna shook her head.
‘Fuck this. If you want to be immature about it, then fine.’ She turned. Snoop watched her walk off for a moment, before sighing and chasing after her. She moved in front of her and stopped, causing Luna to stop walking also. They met each other’s eyes. ‘I just want things to be at least a little normal,’ she tried. ‘You know that can’t happen, because you know who I am. What I am. And you’d always chose Luke over me.’ ‘In that sense,’ Luna protested. ‘I love you.’
‘Just not in that way,’ Snoop finished, before shaking her head and spitting on the floor. ‘I want my gun back, Luna. I don’t feel safe without it. And I want to leave that apartment. I ain’t sitting watching Oprah and Jerry Springer all day.’ Luna bit her bottom lip and then gave a small nod. ‘Tonight, we’ll go back to mine. But, I’m not giving your gun back yet, okay? Maybe tomorrow.’ Snoop hesitated, unsure of whether to protest or not, but then Luna stepped forward and brushed her cheek. ‘You’ll always be my best friend. Even if you don’t think it now and even if you think I want everyone but you, you will be.’
Snoop nodded, before leaning up. She kissed Luna on the lips. There was a hesitant moment, before Luna kissed her back, but only briefly. Then, she pushed her away. A flash of something similar to hurt crossed Snoop’s face, but she said nothing else. She merely turned and headed back to the apartment block. Luna watched her disappear inside, staying where she was for a moment.
It wasn’t like they hadn’t done that before. It just felt different this time. Luna glanced around, before a fear of being seen by one of Marlo’s people got to her and she scurried into the apartment, tired now.
--
Marlo hadn’t drunk a lot, keeping with only two pints and complying whenever Grace wanted another drink. She seemed stressed about something, as she drank more and than ranted more and then drank more. Not that Marlo minded. He watched her with an amused smile, taking in all the information he could. Luke was overprotective, Roland Pryzbylewski saw him as a threat and Luke was going to fuck Luna?
And Grace was going to fuck him. He smiled at this point, drinking slowly from his glass as he watched her. At one point, she pretty much fell off the stool, grabbing his leg for support. He put a hand on her arm. ‘Are you okay?’ he asked, not wanting her to be hurt. He wasn’t sure why. He just didn’t.
Then, she started trying to talk to the man beside them, whose girlfriend was giving them glares. Finally, Grace seemed to realize that she really did need to go home and he was happy to go with her. Find out where she lived and catch up with a few old friends… Marlo followed her through the crowd and towards the door. ‘Woah,’ he said, as she tripped out into the street.
Marlo grabbed her waist, pulling her up right, but her back pressed against his chest and they stood like that. He couldn’t resist. He ducked his head, lips brushing the back of her neck before creeping to the side where her hair was still pinned up. He kissed the skin there, feeling the pulse beat rapidly against his mouth and he smiled against her skin. Then, Marlo turned her around to face him, his eyes meeting hers before he let his lips down back to hers. She tasted like alcohol, but it was a good taste. His tongue ran across her bottom lip, before pressing against her mouth; not requesting entrance, but demanding it. One hand cupped her cheek and the other buried itself in his hair.
‘How about we go back to mine?’ he asked, voice husky, not exactly sure of what even he was saying. His body pressed solidly against hers and he kissed her jaw and her neck and then the corner of her mouth. Finally, he pulled away a little, giving Grace a moment to pull herself together.

The cold concrete spiralled towards her face. No. That was wrong. It was her falling. Suddenly a strong arm snagged her body. She had felt, rather than seen, Marlo follow her to the door which was why she assumed it was his arm wrapped around her waist. Grace was pulled up right although it took her a moment to orientate herself. All the alcohol she had consumed already slowing her senses. Well done Grace, she thought to herself, way to make a subtle exit. She would be suprised if no one else had noticed the spectacle. And Marlo was sure to think she was an idiot. Not that any of that mattered right now, the only thing she could think of was the hard masculine body pressed against her back.
She sighed as his lips brushed her throat, rolling her head to the side to allow him more of her exposed, tender skin. Her hand slowly moved up to cup his face. 'Marlo,' she half moaned as she stroked his cheek. He gently but firmly turned her around to face him. She hastily stepped closer to him, her eyes closed, lips searching for his in the darkness. She pressed deeper and deeper into the kiss. Her slim hands wound their way up his chest, one wrapped around his neck while the other ran it's way through his hair. As his tongue forced entrance into her mouth she gasped, her hand slipping down from his hair to his waist pulling him closer to her. Grace's leg wrapped around his, her thigh sliding slowly up his.
Then just as suddenly as it had started it stoped. She frowned, just about to protest when Marlo gave her an offer she couldn't refuse. Not with this level of alcohol in her system. 'Yours?' she asked slowly, playing with him. She looked away with a wry smile, then back up at him through dark lashes. Grace smiled as he resumed kissing her and finally he gave her a moment to take a breath. 'Well...' she moved closer so that her lips brushed his ear, 'I might need a bit more incentive? she said in a husky voice. 'Don't you think?' she breathed.
But then there were feet heard across the road, a beep of a car as Roland stepped off the curb, watching as they two hugged and groppe across from him. Turning herself around, Gracey blinked a couple of times, unsure if it were the alcohol in her head making her halucinate. But no, it wasn't. And there was Mr P.

Grace moved her head, the sigh escaping her lips as his lips ghosted across the back of her neck. He dotted kisses beneath her ear. Marlo grinned against her lips when Grace turned, kissing him back with just as much ferocity as he was kissing her. His hands gripped her hips, her hand cupping his cheek and she moaned his name in a way that sent pleasure shooting straight to his groin, her body pressed tight against his.
Her hand moved up his chest, the other in his hair and when the kiss deepened to a hot, passion-enflamed dance, Grace’s leg wound around his. Marlo ran one hand down her back, gripping her closer before they pulled away. Marlo was surprised to find himself gasping, blinking as he tried to keep up with what was happening for a moment.
‘Yeah, mine,’ he said, voice hoarse, smile wry. She glanced up at him beneath her lashes, in a shy, yet teasing way and he ducked his head to nip her collarbone through her shirt. ‘Incentive?’ he mused, kissing up the side of her neck. He shifted his hips against hers, letting his hardness press up against her, letting her know exactly what his incentive was. ‘I think you and me both know there’s enough incentive,’ he murmured in her ear, before nipping the lobe.
Suddenly, Grace was out of his arms and Marlo frowned, dark eyes flicking up to see that she’d in fact been snatched out of his arms by no one other than Prez. ‘I think that was a very bad idea,’ he said in a low voice.
‘You stay away from her. She’s drunk, can’t you see that?’ demanded Prezbo, holding Grace close to his side. Then, he tugged her across the street to his car. Marlo didn’t move. He stood on the street, looking at them with an almost sullen expression.
‘You’re gonna regret that,’ he yelled, not attempting to stop the man bundling Grace into the car. Mr Prezbo ignored any protest as well, merely shutting the door on her and climbing in himself. He put his foot down and sped off.
‘What were you thinking?’ he glared at Grace through the rear-view mirror. ‘Do you even know who that guy is?’
