Delighted she had managed to sit up without his help Noelle glanced up at Sirius. He was clearly deep in thought. Rarely a good sign. It usually meant he was about to explode. "My hands are perfectly well controlled. I’ve never had any complaints before." She raised a single eyebrow, "Really? That's not what I heard up in the girls' dorm," of course she was bluffing. As far as those others were concerned Black and Potter were God's gift to ovaries. He couldn't do something wrong even if he wanted too. She thought bitterly of all those girls he'd been with. Although he joked and made sexual inuendos around her he'd never really tried it on. She had convinced herself it didn't matter to her but somewhere at the back of her mind a voice always asked the same question, 'what was wrong with her?'
She was shocked by the outburst her false gratitude had rewarded her with. Maybe she had taken it too far this time. She sat frozen as he verbally abused her. "Remus?!" she asked, voice pitching. Had this all been his idea? She smiled to herself. Maybe there was something there. Sirius didn't even seem to notice as he continued, not letting her get a word in edgeways. "I never asked you to come! On what planet would I ask Sirius fucking Black to come to my aid? I'd be better off calling on Peter Pettigrew." How dare he come and shout at her. Yes it was her fault but it was nothing to do with him, if he had just kept his nose out of it everything would have been fine. The words hit her like a tonne of bricks.
"I know what I've done," she choked out, turning her face away from him. A real tear sliding down her cheek, she wiped it away a quickly and subtley as she could. Noelle was in a mess. A bigger mess than he even knew. She was an idiot. A moment ago she'd been laughing, thinking that maybe he wasn't as bad as she thought but with a few words he'd broken her the bastard. "You can't help me," she said looking away, out into the forest. He kept talking about how they cared and everything they were risking just for her. This was why they were Gryffindors but if they knew what she was doing, they'd hate her. They all risked so much for her, stupid Noelle Brett. He was right. She was a little girl. And he made her feel like one.
As she fell forward she was surprised to feel solid arms catch her. He was there. So close. Too close. One of her hands caught his shoulder, the other fell on his upper thigh, gripping tightly against the pain. She didn't have time to stop and think. Her head bent down. Her forehead pressed against the crook of his neck. Her heart screaming. Her breath coming in pants. Her chest heaving against his, his smell filling her nostrils. Driving her mad.
‘We’re going to need more than a plant to cure this.’ She chuckled into his shoulder, her breaths still coming quick and deep. "I'm fine," she whispered. Bracing herself against Sirius Black. She never thought she'd see the day. They were practically intwined in the middle of the clearing. All she could feel was his arms, and his chest, and his lips beside her ear sending goosebumps across her arms.
"I've got you." Her lips parted in shock. Had he just said that. She lifted her face to look at him. Her clear blue eyes searching his dark ones for something, anything that explained this whole sitiuation. Did he hate her? Did he love her? Did he want her? She didn't know. All she did know was that right now, at this moment no truer words had ever been spoken, he had her alright. Her eyes flicked to his lips, back to his eyes, slowly she leaned forward. It wasn't like they were all that far apart. Her lips just about brushed the corner of his mouth, that was as far as she was prepared to go alone. If he knew what he wanted he could decide now.
---
"Sirius is with them," said Charlotte doubtfully. "That's exactly what I'm worried about," muttered Remus trying not to be so negative. He was sure it wasn't that bad. They'd reach the clearing and James would be there separating Sirius and Noelle as always. They'd be roaring, perhaps a few hexes would be thrown, nothing too serious.
Remus stopped as he reached the clearing. It was a whole lot worse than he thought. "What the?" his eyes grew wide. Surely that wasn't what it looked like, although his werewolf eyes rarely decieved him. Sirius Black and Noelle Brett. All but in eachothers' laps in the middle of the night in the middle of the forbidden forest. Did his eyes decieve him? And where the bloody hell was James Potter?
They didn't notice as the pair drew nearer which was just as well. Remus was very curious to see where this was going. Noelle seemed to be going in for the kill. He smirked. Knew it. He smelled it before he noticed it. The wound on Noelle's back. How she could even contemplate a shifting session with half her skin missing was beyond him.
‘She can’t be dead.’ whispered Charlotte. He squeezed her hand for comfort. "Oh don't worry," he chuckled, "I think she's very much alive." The sound of Remus' voice snapped Noelle back to reality. Her eyes flashed open, staring terrified at Sirius. Turning crimson she pushed herself away gently, releasing his shoulder and leg, bowing her head. She turned around just in time to see Charlotte fall to the floor.
"Remus," His head turned at the soft sound of his voice. "Charlotte?" he asked worriedly. "Charlotte!?" Oh no, he groaned. Blood. It hadn't even crossed his mind that something like that would bother someone. He supposed blood wasn't something werewolves worried too much about. He glanced over at the pair, "Sorry, I'll be back," he called hoisting the girls small weight over his shoulder and leaving the clearing. What could he do but get her away from the source of the bood. After a few minutes of tearing through the forest her placed her down on a log, "Charlotte?" he whispered in the darkness, stroking her face gently. "You ok?"

Sirius could hear Remus coming up behind him, but he was solely focused on the girl before him, clinging to him as if he were her only hope in the world, as if he was the only person she cared about right now. He couldn’t not inhale her sweet smell, her hair tickling his senses, his fingers feeling her smooth curves beneath her clothes. Then she pulled herself away and he thought she was going to move, push him away and say something ever so Brett like, but instead she placed a sweet, sensitive kiss at the edge of his lips. The touch was so gentle that he could hardly believe who he was receiving it from, and before he even knew what was happening, the old Black instincts kicked in and his head bobbed, following her lips as she backtracked and sealing a full kiss.
Only holding her for a second, Sirius quickly stood up, hearing Remus moving back into the woods with a faint Charlotte over his shoulder. Shock momentarily took over him and it was only when his friend had disappeared into the darkness that he gave a laugh, a chuckle of nerves and confusion. What had just happened? James had stumbled towards them after that - whether he had seen them kiss or not, he hadn’t said anything, and Sirius was glad for the change of conversation.
It was only now, laying in his bunk, hands folded behind his head, that Sirius could find himself to think about what had happened in the forest. Would he forever be forced to taste her on his lips - not that he would complain - but it was torturing him, not understanding why it had happened and if it would happen again. What had even come over him? Merlin, he thought that witch hated him, only seconds before they were yelling, and then… giving a growl, he rolled over onto his front, punching at his pillow in annoyance. Remus rested in the bunk next to him and Sirius knew he wasn’t asleep, he could hear pages turning, even in the dim lighting around them. After their little stunt in the woods, more than an hour had passed and now the sun was rising through the tower windows.
‘What a night.’ Sirius said slowly, restlessly flopping back and forth on his mattress, trying to get comfortable, but no matter which way he lay, all he could see was her. ‘Bloody Brett.’ he groaned. A few minutes ticked past before he resigned to laying on his back again, this time at the opposite side of the bed, his ankles crossed over one another. He hardly ever had the bed curtains closed - the boys always like to sneak a conversation in, about what pranks they were going to do the next year, and what girls they’d had up against the bookshelves.
Not that Remus had had any girls in the library - he only had one love there and it was books. ‘Hey, Moony?’ a smirk crossed his lips. ‘What did you and Charlotte get upto? When you came to find us… forgive me if I’m mistaken.’ the smirk grew. ‘but were you.. Holding hands?’

Charlotte had been adamant that Noelle should go to hospital wing, just to see if everything was truly okay. Even if this was a magical world, could a few leaves really cure a burn as bad as that? She’d managed to get over herself and help the girl once they gotten back inside the castle. She didn’t feel foolish - Merlin, she couldn’t help it if she wasn’t one for blood, and after all, Remus had been understanding. Resting against the log, she’d ran her fingers through her hair, bent at the waist, looking at her feet. Was this the life of a Marauder? It wasn’t what she had expected, or asked for. Remus was just so sweet and caring, how could you not love him? Turning sideways, she’d glanced at him with an awkward smile. There was something about him, even rugged and scarred, that made him so handsome, some… pure. Unlike Black and Potter, he had the air of a deer or a puppy - something so gentle. But after seeing Sirius and Noelle kiss, something in her twisted nervously. ‘It’s okay, I’m okay. Let’s get back.’

Today was a Saturday and Hogsmeade. Wrapped up in her duvet, it took Charlotte a good ten minutes before she bowed to the sun streaking through the window and clambered into the chilly morning air. It was only 7am which meant she’d only had a couple hours of sleep, but something inside her wouldn’t let her sleep. Sitting on the edge of her bed, she flopped back, hair fanning around her head. She’d sneaked a shower the night before, having been caked in mud and worry. Usually a happy person, she hadn’t expected such things. Not that she was naïve, just… unprepared to be in the company of such foul people. Slytherin’s really were the lowest of the low. Regulus she’d known about - but that Ned… shivering, Charlotte pinned her hair up and pulled on a summer dress and boots before checking on Noelle.
Yesterday she hadn’t been fond of the girl, but it was okay now that she realised she had no intentions for Remus, and instead many for Sirius. Smiling, she sat on the edge of her friends bed. Everything had been okay. They excuse for the injures had been falling down the spiral staircase - the burning had mostly healed but it was still sore and too much movement inflicted unkind pain. 'Merlin, I need a drink.' she sighed.
_______________________________________ _________________________________________________________
Down in the dungeons Ned happily ran his hand along Daisy Millers thigh, sneaking his fingers higher and sliding under her skirt. Groaning as she bit down on his lip, he dug his nails into her skin, pulling away. Merlin. Merlin. Merlin! Running a hand over his face, he forced the blonde girl from his knee and stood up. Hogsmeade wasn’t what he needed right now - students filling up the Hogshead as he tried to get in his own drink, their laughter and all around existence annoying him to the core. He’d just have to go somewhere else today. Regulus hadn’t been very happy with last nights events, and Ned had nodded along with his words. The stupid Gryffindor obviously wasn’t going to bend under their thumb forever and last night she had made that move away from them. Still, they had so much on her, she could never truly be free.
_______________________________________ _________________________________________________________
‘Wake up, Prongs.’ Sirius grinned, smacking Potter’s backside with a snigger. ‘The beautiful Lily is down in the Common Room. Here’s your chance to take her out on a wild date.’ finally drifting off to sleep for a couple of hours, Sirius was back to his old self; cocky, boisterous and ready for a day in the village. Pushing his hair back across his face, he unbuttoned his shirt, gently massaging his neck. ‘I’m starving - if you’re not ready soon, I’m going to have to eat your breakfast.’ leaving with Remus, Sirius slung an arm around his friends shoulder, ruffling his hair while upstairs James rolled out of bed with a groan.
'What do you say to a full brekafast with double everything?' blimey, did he have his appetite back.

For one sickening moment Noelle had been convinced he wasn't going to react. It couldn't just be in her head. There was more to it than that. His strong commanding arms there to support for once, not just to control. She pulled her lips away, eyes closed. Nothing. He just sat there. Stupid little girl. She had thought, what had she thought? Her mother's catch phrase fluttered through her mind, " Silly little girl, if you keep wearing your heart on your sleeve one day you're going to bleed out." As the youngest of four and the only daughter she was always referred to as little girl, perhaps that was why she despised it so much. Just as she'd given up and the warmth of embarrassment replaced the heat that had consumed her seconds ago. She would never live this down, then she felt them. His lips. Pressed against hers. And everything stooped. Her eyes flashed open. The room was dark and silent. She could just about make out the soft sound of the other grils' breathing. How long had she been asleep? Not long obviously. She rubbed her eyes, almost as if she could rub out the dream, the memories. The image of Sirius Black's eyes was imprinted on the inside of her eyelids. She shook her head. Noelle sat up quickly, wincing at the pain in her back. Charlotte and Remus had been pushing for her to go to the Hospital Wing to get it checked out. Potter and Black had understood that it was beyond a bad idea and convinced the others to just let her go to bed. For the rest of the journey she had remained uncharacteristically quiet. James had helped her paste the leaves and apply them to her back, they had worked as well as she could have hoped. She was surprised at how good she'd been at pretending nothing had happened. Looking out across the other beds her eyes flicked first to Lily, the bed closest to hers. The curtains slightly ajar, enough to allow her to see the fiery red hair splayed across the pillow. The more she thought about it the more she was coming to like that James Potter, maybe she would put a good word in for him after all. She sighed. ' Turn off." she thought to herself. This was a mess but it didn't change anything. What had happened had happened. The past was the past. End of story. ---- Remus tried in vain to sleep. Unfortunately for him Sirius seemed hell bent on keeping him up. He regretted choosing a bed so close to him. It was too late and Remus was too tired to bother with him and decided to just pretend he was asleep unfortunately the flick of pages was that little bit too loud. Sirius wasn't stupid but he doubted he could understand his own actions tonight never mind Noelle's. The young werewolf was suddenly glad he wasn't as impulsive and reckless as his best friends. They got themselves in a mess by making decisions with their dicks instead of their head and ultimately regretted half their decisions. He smiled as he heard a muffled " Bloody Brett." Well not even Remus could explain that one. His thoughts flew back to Hagrid's Hut. Sitting shoulder to shoulder with Charlotte. Holding her hand as they walked through the forest. Carrying her to safety. Yes. He had done quite well tonight he reasoned. Although there was the issue of his secret. That was going to be tricky to hide. Oh well. There was no awkwardness between them walking home. Noelle and Sirius hadn't looked at each other once. "Hey, Moony?" Oh Merlin. He grunted from under the sheets. He wanted to sleep. Not discuss whatever it was that Sirius felt the need to bring up t this exact moment in time. " . . .holding hands?" Remus was glad it was dark so Sirius didn't see his cheeks brighten. He could hear the smirk on his lips. "That's a bit rich coming from you Black. Now correct me if I'm mistaken but when we found you weren't you locking lips with your sworn enemy?" he rolled over onto his belly so he was now facing Sirius even if he couldn't see him in the dark. ---- "Noelle Matilda Brett get up!" hissed a familiar voice right in her ear. The young Gryffindor groaned. "It's Saturday. Piss off," she mumbled pulling the duvet up over her head. The sunlight was now streaming into the dorm. "I know it's Saturday," said Lily Evans coolly sitting on the edge of the mattress. "I also know you didn't get in until half 4 this morning," she whispered just about loud enough for Noelle to hear. The blonde didn't move. "Hah!" said Lily with a laugh, "You my friend have some explaining to do." Noelle pushed herself up into a sitting position. Carefully so she wouldn't aggravate her burn. She looked around. They were the only ones there. "How did you kno-" "What happened you?" asked the red head, concern etched across her features as she inspected her shoulder. "C'mon it's nearly half 11. We'll discuss it while you're getting ready for Hogsmeade." Noelle groaned, "I'm not going to Hogsmeade." The thought of running into Regulus or worse again Ned was really too much. "Actually I don't really plan on leaving my bed," she said brightly, "So Lily you're as well to just go down without -" She was interrupted by all the blankets being ripped from her bed. "Fine. I'm coming," she said bitterly slipping out of the bed. "Good to know," chirped Lily brightly from behind the flowery bedspread. --- Remus had gotten up early to make his way to Hogsmeade. He wasn't sure what the other marauders' plans were but he had a sneaking suspicion it would involve Lily Evans, it usually did. And that always meant one thing; disaster. He had a lot of school stuff to stock up on anway. The weather was quite nice and as it was only half past 8 there weren't many other students out yet. He decided to go into the three broomsticks for a drink first. --- Noelle hurriedly told her the main events of last night. Ommitting some minor details like why exactly she was meeting Ned in the first place. "He told me he had something of mine," said Noelle hastily, not meeting Lily's eye. "So you went all the way down on your own to meet him in the Forbidden Forest in the middle of the night?" asked an incrdulous Lilly. It was clear she didn't believe her but for now she didn't push it. "You did WHAT to Sirius Black?!" she screeched. Noelle clamped her hand over her friends' lips "Shush!" she ordered horrified. Lily sat on the end of the bed doubled over in laughter. "What possesed you?!" Noelle shook her head slowly, "I don't know. I was upset! And it was cold and dark and, and, and I'd suffered a lot of blood loss alright!" "Sure sure," scoffed Lily rolling her eyes. "Oh just go. I'll meet you downstairs," said Noelle darkly. She could hear the girls' laughter all the way down the stairs. It actually was as bad as she'd imagined. What a night. She reached the common room just in time to see James and Black enter from the boys' dorm. Lily looked up and smiled mischievously, "Morning boys," she said from the comfy armchair by the fire. Noelle shot her a glare. "Morning," she muttered glancing in their direction with a quick smile. It wasn't much out of character for her, she was generally quiet in the mornings. She was big into her sleep. --- Regulus Black rolled over pulling the pillow around his head. The Slytherin Common Room was in the dungeon so they never faced a fear of being awoken by the sunlight, however, as morning came and more and more students awoke he found it difficult to remain asleep. A lot had happened last night on his first venture into the Forbidden Forest. He had never expressed any interest in joining Ned on his little nightly rambles but last night he had buckled and agreed to go. Why he wasn't sure. He supposed he hated the idea of some Gryffindor girl getting one up on a Slytherin. Ned knew she was close to giving up the ghost, not that it particulary effected him but it was a point of principle. He noticed his friend getting up earlier than he would have expected without waking him and wondered what he was up to. Oh yes, Hogsmeade, he would be meeting Daisy for a quick feel-up before making his way to the three broomsticks. He waited a few more minuted before pushing himself out of bed. Maybe there'd be some excitement today after last nights events. He was curious to see what kind of state Ned had left that Brett in. It was good to see her taken down a peg. The dark common room was all but empty, the slick leather couches lay unoccupied and the fire was at risk of going out. Few people passed up the opportunity to go to Hogsmeade. Casually he strode in the direction of the Great Hall. He wasn't really very hungry just hoping to catch a glimpse of that Gryffindor girl. As he reached the Entrance Hall he was met by none other than Remus Lupin. His dear brother's best friend. "Have a nice sleep did you?" he asked with a smirk. Remus' lip curled in response, "Splendid. Thanks," he said in an acidic tone. Lupin didn't waste time and carried on. Off to Hogsmeade. Perhaps Regulus would be paying the village a visit after all. He sat beside Ned at the Slytherin table. "I'm after seeing that cocky prefect Lupin on his was to Hogsmeade," said Regulus with a smirk sitting down beside the blonde boy. "Oh yeah, and?" asked the boy casually. "Nothing, he was all alone s'all," finished the younger Black with a sly shrug. The penny dropped. "Maybe we should give him some company? After all he was very good to us last night," said Regulus picking up a piece of toat and taking a bite.

Charlotte had decided to let Noelle sleep in after the events of last night and had gone down to breakfast alone. It was always the same on the weekends, people wouldn’t get up unless they had to, and most of them spent the two days of freedom doing nothing but sleeping. The younger years would pine and complain that they didn’t get to see the highlights of Hogsmeade, but the others knew what awaited them and sometimes it took a little too much effort to go into the village. Charlotte had gone every year since the third - sometimes she went with Evans, but others she went on her own. It wasn’t that she didn’t like to be with the other Gryffindor’s… she just didn’t think she suited. You could only have so many butterbeers in a crowded room before you got sick of them. Coming from a witching family, all of this was a familiarity to her, like a muggle walking down to the supermarket and as the pure-blooded rule hadn’t run deep, she knew many muggle customs too-
Her attention seeped back as her toast disappeared and the drinks appeared on the table. The room was scarce and she still time to get rid of before she went to Hogsmeade.
As they all lined up, waiting to go to Hogsmeade, Charlotte could hear Lily Evans a bit ahead of her, chattering happy to Noelle. She didn’t have to be a male to know she was one of the most beautiful girls in their year - it wasn’t just her fiery locks, but her buoyant and optimistic attitude towards everything, and everyone. Poor unfortunate James Potter seemed to be the only one not to be accepted into her life. It wasn’t his fault he couldn’t win her over, he just went about it all the wrong way, and punishing Severus Snape wasn’t going to get him anywhere. Maybe after last night, Noelle would put him in Lily’s good books by telling the tale of his heroism. But that would mean revealing her little escapade and her brush with Sirius Black, and was she really ready to admit that to anyone? It seemed, after last night she wasn’t even sure on what she’d done herself. Smiling, she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear; she’d told Remus there was more than just anger between the two. It was sexual frustration finally breaking free. And some part of her was happy, but the other half was… she couldn’t quite place it, but it seemed like jealousy.
Stop being so bitter, Charlotte, she warned herself.

Sirius had gone straight to sleep after Remus had brought up his little kiss with Noelle the night before and after Remus had left him early in the morning to make his own way down, he was left to wait for sleeping Prongs. Going back into the boys dorm to wait for his friend, Sirius gave a laugh to see James falling back onto his bed, defeated. ‘I’m so tired.’ he complained, gripping his pillow and inhaling sleepily.
‘Is that what you practise your kissing technique on for old Evans?’ Sirius asked, jumping onto his own bed, continuously grinning. ‘If you hurry up, we can go see her -’
‘What’s your rush this morning, Padfoot.’ James asked, pushing himself onto his elbows and finding his glasses. ‘Yesterday you were speechless, but this morning..-’ the look his friend gave him made it sure that last night wasn’t to be spoken of. ‘It’s the full moon tomorrow, I say we give Remus a good night tonight, make it a little easier for him to handle.’ lately things had been strained on the four of them during the full moon. Wormtail was acting suspicious and always escaping their company when it came to the full moon and Snivellus had taken to sneaking around the castle at night-time. If they didn’t know any better, their once tolerable friend had turned into a snake.
Talking quietly to one another as they headed towards the common room, Sirius had to stop as James froze on the steps. Lily Evans. Instantly running a hand through his hair, he threw himself into the opposite armchair, trying to look casual. ‘Morning, ladies.’ his eyes travelled towards Noelle and all he could think about was how his hand had slipped into her snug jeans pocket to retrieve the rod. ‘Nice day for it.’ he muttered, ruffling his hair again, smirking as Sirius sat himself on the arm of Noelle’s chair.
‘Mornin’.’ all traces of yesterday had slipped from his thought and he casually slung his arm over the back of the seat.
_______________________________________ _________________________________________________________
At the Slytherin table, Ned looked up to see Regulus joining him. Daisy had gone off with a few of her friends after having licked half of his neck clean and chewed his ear raw. It wasn’t that he didn’t like her - she was just… boring. Hearing about Remus being alone, a grin took over his features, blue eyes igniting with excitement. ‘Yeah, company. And I think we need to have a nice long chat with him, too.’ they hadn’t been called by any professors yet, but chances were Remus was going to get them into deep dung. As the Professors gave the okay to leave the hall and the castle grounds, Ned and Regulus sauntered alongside the other Slytherin’s, only breaking free when they came to the patch which split the shops from the Three Broomsticks.
‘I don’t know about you, but I’m suddenly very thirsty.’ Remus would be in here, no doubt. He always strayed away from the crowds, as if he had something to hide, or was a danger to large crowds. What was so frightening about booky little Remus Lupin?
_______________________________________ _________________________________________________________
‘You ladies don’t mind if we go with you, do you?’ Sirius asked, not caring if they denied him the short walk into the village. They were all going the same way so they had little choice in the matter. Glancing at Lily, he saw the look he gave her and his lip quivered, unsure. Did she know? It was always hard to tell what Lily Evans was thinking, but whatever she was feeling was easily expressed through her beautiful eyes.
James stood by Lily, trying to spark up a conversation, but instead managed to look awkward and lost. As they neared Hogsmeade, he took his chance and grabbed hold of her hand, pulling her away from the rest of the students. Sirius threw him a confused look, but all the same didn’t follow. James deserved to have his girl, after all, Sirius had had his own fun last night. A little ahead of everyone else, Charlotte had arrived outside the Three Broomsticks, but had stopped herself outside the door, insides squirming. Something told her Remus would be in there and it’d only be kind to take a seat next to him. That would spiral into a conversation and she didn’t know if she wanted to do that just yet.

Noelle tried to look calm and collected as she always did. She wasn't one of the younger drama queens of this school that flailed whenever they saw a good looking boy. Her facade faultered when the pair of Gryffindor boys strolled into the common room and sat in beside them. Typical James Potter, upbeat and oblivious. She doubted Sirius had even told him about last night, why would he? Bless him and his efforts with Lily. Noelle didn't want to get too ahead of herself but Lily had seemed impressed by his role in the stories from last night. Deep down, underneath all that self-esteem and quidditch there was a heart somewhere. She almost felt guilty for what she'd put him through last night and as soon as she caught a sly mischeivous wink from Lily she regretted telling the tale of her pocket.
"Nice day for what exactly, Potter?" asked Lily raising an eyebrow. She slowly and deliberatley slipped a hand into her jean pocket. Not an altogether easy feat considering she was sitting down. Noelle sighed with a smile putting her hand in head. What had she done? She felt something brush along the exposed skin of her neck. Her sandy hair was pulled to the side in a nessy plait that fell over her left shoulder, hiding any traces of last nights escapades. She glanced up, surprised to see Sirius sitting on the arm of her chair. He hadn't said a word to her since the 'incident' and now here he was, cool as you like. "Not enough chairs in the common room for you Black?" she said quietly, a smile playing on her lips.
James looked at Lily with a puzzled expression. Suddenly he realised that she knew. Oh merlin's beard! His cheeks began to colour. "Nice day for- C'mon, we better get going!" he announced bouncing out of his seat. "Ladies first," he smiled, waving his hand for Lily to walk ahead. Noelle smiled standing up, "God loves a trier," she breathed as she walked around him.
---
Regulus chuckled, "You know what? So am I. C'mon, you find us a seat and I'll get us some butterbeers," the dark haired boy lead them into the tavern, the smell of fire wood, spirits and the sweet scent of butterbeer met them instantly. Regulus glanced quickly around. Most of the Hogwarts crowd wouldn't come here untill lunch time. They all hit the shops first so it was relatively quiet. A few locals, the odd professor and sure enough Remus Lupin. Regulus turned to elbow Ned who nodded, "Yeah, yeah I see, but I've something better in mind now," he had paused right in the doorway as a gruff looking wizard approached. "What?" frowned the youngest Black, "Hey, I'll be back in a minute, save me a seat near dear old Lupin alright?" he winked and left.
Regulus grumbled to himself. That was so Ned. Never let anyone else in on the plan. He rested his elbow on the counter top. Well at least he got a good look at the new barmade. Rosemerta was her name, barely older than them, just out of school. Lush blond locks, wicked hips and well able to manage her jugs. "Two butter beers please Rosemerta," he smiled with a rougish wink. "Keep the change." The young girl laughed appreciatively. "I'll be right with you."
---
Meanwhile outside Ned had noticed another familiar face from lastnight looking rather forlorn. Charlotte. She was hesitantly approaching The Three Broomsticks. Hmm, was she going to meet Lupin? The least he could do was buy the poor girl a drink he supposed, although she didn't seem to be looking forward to it. He smirked. If he played his cards right he could do more damage to Remus Lupin than he had ever dreamed.
"Hello Charlotte," he said with a crooked smile. He fell into step beside her, his hands casually in his pockets. "I was just wondering what you were doing with that Lupin last night," he looked away nervously. "He looked pretty fierce, I hope he wasn't forcing you to. . ." he trailed off running a hand through his hair. Suddenly he pulled up, turning to face her, standing very close. "Listen, I know I'm just some asshole Slytherin, I get that, whatever. But you don't know the full story of last night and well, when I saw you with him," he sighed, "It just made me uneasy. You are ok aren't you?" he asked with a genuinely concerned expression. His hand gently tilted her chin towards him.
Damn. He derserved an award for a performance like this. Sure she was a sweet, good-looking girl and he wouldn't feel the need to kick her out of bed or anything but the fact that this would piss of Mr. Prefect was the icing on the cake. If Ned could pull this off he didn't care how many detentions he got.
---
Remus sat in a quiet corner of the Three Broomsticks, going over a list of some of the things he needed to get today. He wondered how long it would be before the other two would land. Well James was sure to appear as soon as Lily did. He had seen Severus Snape earlier on so he knew Lily wasn't with him. That meant she'd probably be with Noelle. He smiled picturing the awkwardness between her and Sirius. That prat deserved it for all his womanising ways. She'd make a man out of him if anyone would.
From the corner of his eye he could see two very familiar Slytherin boys enter the tavern. His body tensed. Were they looking for him. Sure enough Regulus' gaze landed on him after about ten seconds. Maybe he had been to hasty with the threat of detention. Obviously he wasn't going to dog them in with two of his best friends still out in the forest. He sighed pulling his bag a little closer to his body. He was most certainly not in the mood for a fight today.
---
"You ladies don’t mind if we go with you, do you?" Noelle opened her mouth to retort, Lily spotted this, "Oh I'm sure Noelle doesn't have a problem with that do you?" she asked cheekily. Brett shot her an accusatory glare but the red head smiled care-free. The blonde shrugged, what could she say now? Why had she told her why? Because she was the only person in this school she felt comfortable enough to talk to. Sometime you just had to say things, get them off your chest.
Brett smiled at James' attempts to get Lily's attention. He had a new place in her heart after last night. He had been so willing to help, not like the stuck up git he usually was. Suddenly he was pulling Lily away from the road, Noelle wanted to stop him. She had no immediate desire to be abandoned here with Sirius Black but Lily knew that and so for once in her life she didn't fight the advances of James Potter. What fucking brilliant timing thought Noelle ruefully. She shook her head in dismay. "And then there was two," she smiled, hoping to diffuse the sudden silence.

Just as she had contemplated turning back and going to the Hogshead instead, Charlotte was approached by a sheepish looking Ned. Something in her told her he meant trouble, but she was also intrigued to what he had to say. She’d take no rubbish off of him, but for the moment she kept herself quiet, biting down her lip as they walked a little. Truth be told, he was bloody handsome, but that meant nothing - it was the inside that made him such a turnoff. ‘What I was doing with Remus is none of your business.’ she muttered, voice quiet. Could he just stop talking? Now she’d have to walk into the Three Broomsticks with him at her side, hanging onto her every word. The way he was speaking, it was so different to how he had been the night before. Although after what had happened, that was to be excused. Forcing her? Why would he force her to hold her hand? It had been her idea in the first place… face contorted in confusion, she stopped when he pulled alongside, facing her. What was he getting at?
As his hand reached out to tilt her chin, her heart rose into her throat. Trying to remain calm she forced herself to look him in the eye. She would not bow to him and become a bashful little girl like the other flimsy girls that hung around the Slytherin’s like flies. Trying not to stutter and look a fool, she lifted her hand and slowly pushed his away. ‘I-im fine… I- what do you mean? What’s Remus done?’ frowning, she couldn’t bring herself to look away from him. He knew something, and she had to know. ‘Do you want a drink?’
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As James tore Lily away from the crowd, he pulled her a short distance until they were behind one of the stores. Pushing her against the wall, he did the only thing he could think of and kissed her full out on the lips. Waiting for a moment, he pulled back and stared at her, moving an inch or so as if he was worried she was going to vomit. If Sirius could do it, so could he. Merlin, he’d waited so long.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ‘Prongs.’ Sirius sighed under his breath, looking at the ground for longer than necessary. When Noelle spoke, he glanced sideways at her, smirking. ‘I think we’ve been set up.’ he muttered, sticking his hands into his pockets. ‘Well, come on.’ rather than taking her hand - it was too early for that bollocks - Sirius trudged on, glancing over his shoulder as he waited for her to follow. ‘Remus is waiting in the Three Broomsticks - whether you like it or not, you’re coming with us. Who knows what you’ll get into on your own.’ cringing, he was glad she couldn’t see him. Patronizing, Sirius, well done. He hadn’t even said it in a flirting way, like the usual old Black, but.. Concerned. Shaking, he fingered his wand as a distraction.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Ned had gone somewhere, and Regulus was about to go over to Remus on his own, when he came through the door with Charlotte by his side. Raising an eyebrow, he watched his friend cautiously before taking his drink over to Remus’ table. With a smirk, he sat himself down without a word and kicked his legs up on the chair opposite. ‘Good to see you again.’ he said, sipping his drink casually, glancing up to see his mate and the girl at the bar. ‘Isn’t that the one from last night?’ he asked, feigning confusion. ‘No, can’t be, she’s with Ned.’ with a laugh Regulus placed his drink down and looked towards Remus. ‘So, this detention. You weren’t serious about that, were you? I mean, come on, we were only having a laugh. You know how it is, I bet you are and my brother-’ the word was almost choked. ‘- are always out after curfew - I know you are, for a fact.’

Ned could see Charlotte's facial expressions veering from confused to angry to soft. It was like spinning a wheel. He wasn't sure which one it was going to stop on. "I know it's none of my business," he sighed looking agitated, "But can I help it if I'm concerned for you?" his eyes bored into hers looking for a reaction. Surely this was having some sort of emotional impact on the girl. He was practically pouring his heart out, well not really but she didn't know that. His older brother Nicholas had taught him everything he needed to know. It was actually thanks to him that they were even in this position.
"What’s Remus done?" Ah, this was the tricky bit. What had Remus done. For the time being it was too risky to just come out with some airy-fairy accusation. He had to be clever about it. Generally speaking just planting the seed of doubt in someones mind was enough to turn them against someone. In his experience everyone assumed the Gryffindors to be brave and true, but one false rumor was all it took to tarnish that reputation and turn someone against them. Whereas a Slytherin, such as himself, who proved to be surprisingly friendly. Well that was a fairy tale ending, everybody wanted to believe that. It would be easy as pumpkin pie to turn Remus Lupin into the bad guy.
"A drink?" he asked, taken aback. He hadn't dared hope it would work this quickly. "Of course. On me," he opened the door to The Three Broomsticks, letting her go in ahead of him. The odd gently-manly touch helped move things along. His hand grazed her lower back, he had to be careful. Too much contact would blow the whole thing, but just enough to leave her wanting more, that was the key.
Remus Lupin watched from his corner seat in horror. What was Charlotte doing with him?! His heart sank. He had honestly believed they had some sort of connection last night. Had it all been in his head? He sighed, heart-broken, slumping into his seat.
The pair were sitting at a table, conveniently situated directly opposite Remus Lupin. Ned sometimes wondered if he was too cruel, then he smirked. "Cheers, mate," he said nodding at the barman who had just supplied the drinks. "So," said Ned, sliding a glass across the table. "What was it that you really wanted to talk about?" he raised a questioning eyebrow.
Remus glared across at Regulus Black, "What in Merlin's name do you want?" he snapped. He wasn't usually this bad tempered. "She's with Ned," said Regulus mockinly. The words stung him. "It's not up to me who she spends her time with," he said casually without looking up from her books. "I'm not her keeper."
He felt utterly abandoned. He knew he hadn't done much for her last night but this, this was uncalled for. He sighed heavily. "Detention? Hah! As if I need to bother. The pair of you will land yourselves in detention soon enough without my help I'm sure," he was beggining to understand why Sirius despised his brother so much.
---
"I think we’ve been set up." Noelle nodded in agreement. "I should never have opened my mouth to that-" she quickly closed her mouth. Admitting she had told Lily about the kiss was admitting she aknowledged it. Admitting she acknowledged it was admitting it meant something. And it didn't mean something. It didn't mean anything. It ws just the result of sleep deprivation, blood loss and and and who knows? A temporary loss of mind. She looked away. The worst part of this was not knowing what Sirius was thinking. Did it matter? Did he care? Was he pretending it hadn't happened just like her or had he just not gotten around to mentioning it. Ugh. Boys were stupid.
Merlin he couldn't even look at her. Was she that awful. They didn't get on but a kiss was a kiss. Hey there was passion in their relationship, even if it was sometimes a violent one. "Who knows what you’ll get into on your own." She turned to look at him, her head cocked to one side. "Oh, and what's that supposed to mean?" she demanded as they approached the Three Broomsticks. "I've heard enough stories about the marauders to say the exact same thing for you," she replied sharply pushing her way in ahead of him. Who the hell did he think he was? He couldn't just order her around. Somehow everything he said managed to hit a nerve, whether it was in a good way or a bad one.
She searched the bustling room for Remus, ah, this could be an issue. Regulus Black. That most certainly wasn't a good thing. Or was it. Her eyes flicked back to Sirius. There was always a sure fire way to get him revved up. Well, he had insisted she come in here.
---
"Afternoon boys," said Noelle, smiling as she joined Remus and Regulus. She made a point of sitting right beside Regulus and allowed her eyes to settle on him for a moment too long, all for Sirius' benefit of course. How much trouble could she get herself into despite his so called protection.
Remus smiled, relived. Sirius and Noelle were here. At least he had some back up now. Three to one. His odds were improving by the minute. He sighed as Noelle sat down. He'd known her long enough to recognise her games. Ever since first year her and Sirius had been at eachothers' throats trying to score points. Regulus was the bullseye. He sighed, "Hello guys." And here was Remus thinking that after their shared moment of passion last night the pair would finally be able to put their differences behind them. Not a chance.

yeah, orlando isnt the right shape, so he makes it look messy. its 2am so suck my dick. arent they pretty?? :] i got bored so now im going to make loads of pictures, so whooooooooooooooo_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ "I've heard enough stories about the marauders to say the exact same thing for you,"
Okay, the Marauders were known for mischief, but they’d never been bloody fried! Well, almost, once, but that was a different story and he wasn’t going to tell her about that. But the thing she didn’t see was there were four of them and only one of her. Things were so much easier when they were all together, the Marauders, a band of brothers. The animagus aided them in a way she’d never be allowed to know. They all depended upon one another. That would never change.
As she pushed ahead of him, Sirius gave a groan of annoyance. Everything he said so far had made her more angry with him, and he shouldn’t have cared, but he did. What was he supposed to do? Why did she have the right to act so high and mighty, even though it was her bloody fault that last night had happened. If she hadn’t have run off into the forest, he wouldn’t have found himself inclined to follow, she wouldn’t have got hurt and he wouldn’t have… He couldn’t even bring himself to say that he’d kissed her. No! She had kissed him - ah! That made everything so much better. Noelle had placed the kiss on his lips first, with that sad little doe-eyed expression, and he’d thought with his dick, not even hesitating as he did it back. He was a man, what did she expect him to do? Merlin, it’d been a while since he’d kissed anyone like that though. He hadn’t even used tongues!
Following her inside, he couldn’t wait to find Remus and just have a nice relaxing drink. Maybe that was why Remus strayed away from the girls in a way Sirius couldn’t find himself to do; it was so much easier when they weren’t around, but then things got boring. Expression incredulous, Sirius watched as Noelle took a seat next to his brother - Regulus, of all people! What was she playing at? Ordering a drink, he and Remus moved away from his sibling and sat at the back, close enough to see what was going on, but not to quite hear. This was just some stupid little stunt she was doing to get his attention, he was sure of it, so trying to remain calm he bent over his drink, looking towards his friend.
The tables had turned here; usually Sirius was the one that the girls pined after, crowing and floating in his wake, their eyes glassed over with lust. But.. Not Noelle Brett. How could he have expected any different? It had always been like this, and one stupid stunt wasn’t going to change anything. Merlin, he just couldn’t stop thinking about it though! Downing his drink, he shook his shaggy head of hair and gasped. That was better. Catching Remus’ attention was drawn elsewhere, Sirius glanced over his shoulder to see Charlotte and Ned sitting together, looking quite cosy, in fact. Blinking, he tore his gaze away, confused. It was like some crackpot parallel universe. What did the girls think they were doing? Was this really how women worked, because Sirius had never really come to understand. He knew three things about women and that was all he’d ever need, it had gotten him through life so far.
- They liked pretty things.
- They were pretty things.
- A rebel was something they craved for, and Sirius would never stop being that. They liked a man that was suave and yet dangerous, a bit of excitement for them. Also, someone who knew what they were doing, would be good, but wasn't that to be expected? Sirius would gladly admit he was probably one of the best at... well, you know. That.
‘Is that Char-’ he stopped himself midway and shook his head again. Merlin. Never mind. ‘How are you feeling about your fury problem?’ he asked quietly, taking a sip of another drink Rosemerta kindly brought over. Momentarily distracted, he watched her swish her way back behind the bar; those were some hips. ‘Fury Little Problem’ had been something James had thought of, and it’d stuck. People would hardly relate it back to werewolves, and if they did they were far too smart, and nosy, for their own good.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The hand across her back, the way he smoothly ordered a drink and led them to a table. Charlotte was finding it hard to understand why they hated Ned so much. Everything and everyone acted differently to how they had before. Either some game was being spun, or it had simply been a misunderstanding. Taking the glass between her hands she was quiet for a few minutes, suddenly feeling small in the smoke filled pub. His actual name was Edward, she’d asked Lily about it the night before as they waited in the hospital wing. It only seemed right to learn who you were dealing with. Looking at him, she gave a smile. Something about him made her legs weak and she was glad to be sitting down. But she had to keep the exterior up… didn’t she? It had been his fault that Noelle had been injured and she needed to stick with her house.
She was lost for words, what was she supposed to say? A million questions swam around inside her head, about Remus, about Sirius. But who could she trust to tell her the truth? Everyone would be bias. ‘About last night…’ Charlotte sighed, tracing circles on the table. ‘I know I called your friend a lot of stuff, so… I’m just surprised you’re still talking to me.’ a small, nervous laugh. ‘Although he seems happy enough.’ eyebrows twitching, she watched Regulus’ hand slip away from his drink and towards Noelle. 'Though I'm starting to think nothing happened at all...'
‘I say we leave old Wormtail out of this,’ Sirius said, calm. It had been something they’d been thinking about for a while. He just wasn’t fit enough to go with them anymore. If they got caught… and it was obvious he had other things on his mind at the moment, he was hardly anywhere to be seen. ‘and Charlotte asked Lily about werewolves.’ he cringed - had they gotten a snitch in their group or was she simply inclined to understanding everything about everyone? ‘I’d be careful if I was you-’ stopping, Sirius caught the site of Regulus’ hand as it slipped from around his drink and onto Noelle’s sweet bum, pinching it cheekily before leaving it there, fingers dancing as he caressed her.
Noelle would respond, she had to, she wasn’t the kind of girl to let something like that happen! But nothing, and after about three seconds, Sirius was up and furious. It had been bearable when James had touched her, but not his fucking brother, the little worm, what did he think he was going to get from that? He didn’t care if this was a game to wind him up, it had worked and he wasn’t going to let her get touched up like something cheap. She was better than that. All the thoughts spun in his mind and he hardly understood what he was doing as he grabbed her from her seat and pulled her away. His grip was hard, but he was too busy shooting daggers at his sibling to realise she was squirming in his grip, trying to force him away. Grabbing her with both hands down, he stared at her, shaking her furiously.
Charlotte had gone to stand up but had stopped herself, quickly sitting again, although glancing worryingly at Ned. She’d never thought Sirius would touch her like that, even if he had been provoked. The way his fingers dug into her skin, it was enough to make her hex him. Face taught, she bobbed her head, ignoring the scene and Remus' pleading eyes.
‘What do you think you’re doing?’ Sirius snarled, his heart beating heavily in his throat. ‘Making your way through the school are you? Have you tried Remus yet - or even James? Control yourself, Merlin, you Whore!’ the word has left his mouth before he could stop it and quickly he swallowed, the anger in his eyes diminishing slightly. He didn’t care what his brother’s reaction was, because whatever he was doing, he wasn’t stopping Sirius from verbally abusing her. More anguish in his eyes than fire, Sirius let go of her, his fingers remaining on her arm before he pulled away, gasping. ‘Remus..’ the rest of the sentence didn’t need to be strung, it was clear that they had to leave. Everyone was watching, glares sent into the back of his neck, his front, his side. People he didn’t even know - people he did know, people he was friends with, all of them, judging him for his outburst. ‘Do what you want. I hope you have fun.'

Remus' relief was short lived. This was just bloody typical. As if it wasn't bad enough having Regulus Black cozying up to him in the middle of the Three Broomsticks Noelle was now making a grand entrance followed by a surly looking Sirius Black. Oh Merlin. Some days he wondered why he bothered. Right now he'd rather be a werewolf wandering the fields than stuck between this lot! He knew by the girl's expression that she was going to do something he would regret. He stole one last glance across the room toward Charlotte and felt his heart give one more soft squeeze. "You alright?" he asked Sirius as the shaggy haired boy took up the seat beside him, he wanted to distract his friend from the girl opposite him. And if he could distract himself from Charlotte at the same time so much the better.
Noelle glanced across the table. Sirius was deep in conversation, not playing her the slightest bit of attention any more. Inhaling deeply she took the plunge. Desperate times called for desperate measures. "So?" she said, forcing a smile as she playfully bit her lip. The Slytherin boy looked up at her from under his dark curls. He was so like Sirius in so many ways, she wondered how they had been sorted into such different houses. "Yes?" he asked suspiciously. "I think you and I got off to a poor start yesterday," she said trying to look as genuine as possible. It wasn't easy given her present company. "I suppose you could say that," he replied with a blank expression. This boy gave nothing away.
"Listen, I'll just cut to the chase," said Noelle leaning closer so their conversation wouldn't be heard. "I know he's your friend. You're both Slytherins, the same year or whatever but you're not like him. He'll just use you and dump you for the next best thing that comes his way," Regulus raised an eyebrow, "Who? Ned?" he scoffed. "You think my brothers any better?" She scowled at him, "What has your brother got to do with any of this?" she hissed. Regulus chuckled darkly and shook his head but he didn't answer.
"So let me get this straight," he whispered, his face inches from hers. The dark eyes so penetrating. "What you really want is for me to get you out of your obligations with Ned?" She nodded slowly. There was little point dressing it up. Of course she could lie and pretend she was doing it for his own good but why bother. Slytherins were cunning, they knew what was in their best interest. Gryffindors were supposed to be brave and true. Noelle didn't much feel like a Gryffindor any more. Was it possible that you could be sorted into the wrong house? Perhaps given time a person could change so much that what the sorting hat had once seen in you just wasn't there any more.
"Hmm," he pretended to consider her appeal for a moment. "I mean I suppose I could have a word with him. There are other ways. . . I suspect he only went to the hassle of forcing you to do it to see one of the great Bretts on there knees-" "I was never on my knees!" she snapped, her lip curling in disgust. "You know what? Don't eve-"
"Ah, ah, ah," interjected Regulus, putting a hand on her arm to stop her getting up. A small smile had crept onto his face, a smile that made Noelle's skin crawl. "What?" she breathed, stealing another glance at Remus and Sirius. Remus met her eyes but Sirius was looking the other way for now. She looked down, avoiding his questioning gaze.
"How far would you be prepared to go to get your freedom?" he asked quietly. "I'd do anything," the words were out before she could stop them but as soon as they had escaped she realized they were true. She would do almost anything. Regulus grinned. "Anything eh?" he asked, "Even if it meant breaking my brother's heart?" Noelle's eyes widened in shock, "What? I- I-" she looked down. Took a deep breath, regaining her composure. Regulus obviously wasn't aware of the nature of their relationship. They were enemies. Despite what had happened last night. Sirius had made that clear enough. "I said anything didn't I?" she asked tilting her head to the side. Regulus looked taken aback. "Not that I can be of much help," she continued, "We don't exactly get on." "Oh, I think you'll do fine," whispered Regulus, his hand snaking down the back of her chair, until it was in dangerously close proximity to her ass. "What the fuck do you think you're doing?" she demanded through gritted cheeks. Slipping her wand subtly out of her pocket. "Just showing you exactly how much of a help you can be," she felt his hand make contact, a quick pinch. She slipped her hand onto his knee, his eyebrows rose sky high in shock "You've five seconds to remove your hand, before I blow your testicles off," she smiled sweetly. He looked down and could see that in her hand that was resting inconspicuously on his knee, hidden by the table, was her wand. Pointing up along his thigh, the tip of it glowing and getting uncomfortably hot.
"Easy on," he said worriedly. "Four," she whispered. Regulus glared back defiantly, the level of heat increased, a little too close to the crown jewels. "Three. Two." Just as Regulus was about to remove his hand Noelle felt large hands grasp her shoulders, she cried out in pain as her tender, burnt skin was jarred painfully.
---
Ned could all but see the young girl falling into his arms. Every little nice gesture shocked her and made her feel guilty for ever assuming he was a wanker just because he was a Slytherin. His methods never failed. Different girls wanted different things in life you just had to figure out what is was they craved and give it to them. Daisy? Well she was easy, she was a diamond kinda girl. Noelle was more difficult, he hadn't been able to mold her as he did other girls, only because she'd learned from her mistakes with his older brother. He realized now that all she was after was a little adventure, an adrenaline rush. Then there was Charlotte, he'd known the minute he saw her reach for Remus' hand in the darkness, she just wanted a Gentleman. Someone to hold her in the night, keep her safe and warm. His smoldering gazes would make her knees buckle and her heart race. Yes before long Ned Norrington would have her exactly where he wanted her.
"I know I called your friend a lot of stuff, so… I’m just surprised you’re still talking to me." Ned smiled, beaming his pearly whites and looking away as if slightly embarrassed. "I know Reggie doesn't come across as it, but deep down he's. . . " Ned couldn't think of a single nice thing to say about his best friend, oh the joys of being a Slytherin, "Let's just say there's more to him than meets the eye." He began to relax a little now. She was clearly comfortable in his company, he felt confident enough to drape his arm along the back of her chair, not quite her back, that wasn't proper at this early stage. Not for a gentleman.
"Although he seems happy enough." Ned frowned, "What do you mean happy enough?" he followed her gaze and his mouth fell open. The prat! Brett was going to have his dick on a skewer with the testicles as a garnish. It seemed they weren't the only ones who had noticed either. Sirius Black looked prepared to draw blood. In normal circumstances he would have been delighted. Everybody loved a good duel to the death. No-one, however, liked a cock-block. He brought his palm to his face in frustration and let his hand run through his hair. "Merlin, I'm sorry. . . I take back what I said. He's a git. I hope you don't associate me with the actions of that sex-driven imbecile." He looked up at her, blue eyes wide and concerned. "I don't want you to ever think of me like that"
Ned wasn't sure what he should do next. They sat and watched in horror as Sirius tore Noelle apart in front of the entire pub. That right there was a man on the edge, he would never let a woman reduce him to that. Ned could take one of several pathways here. The easiest would be to pretend nothing had happened. Not very chivalrous but his sense of self-preservation was fully behind that plan. Of course it would earn him brownie points if he could stand up in front of everyone (mostly Charlotte) and defend the so-called lady's honor. Although knowing Noelle she'd simply hex him into next month. Lastly he could wait until things had died down and quietly reprimand Regulus in her presence. The last one would have to do. Brett wasn't worth another trip to St. Mungo's for facial reconstruction.
---
Remus watched with a sinking feeling as Sirius leaped from his seat. Nothing good would come from this. If hadn't been able to recognize the discomfort on her face he didn't deserve her in the first place. Remus had been watching Noelle with growing concern for several moments, he couldn't tell what she was saying but the mixture of expressions both real and false were enough to alert him to the fact that something was wrong. His friend was too busy being angry and frustrated to take in small details like this though and instead of attacking his little brother he lunged at the vulnerable girl.
Have you tried Remus yet - or even James? Control yourself, Merlin, you Whore!
"Sirius!" scolded Remus in shock, he put his arm on his best friends' arm but to no avail. He didn't even bat an eyelid. A few moments later the elder Black's breathing became more regular and the ferocious anger in his eyes subsided. Lupin watched Noelle closely who didn't say a word. She stood completely still, her expression stony although several seconds ago she had looked completely petrified. Now she just seemed disappointed. let down. Remus had to commend her bravery, her gaze never dropped and she never flinched although it was clear that Sirius shaking her shoulder was causing a lot of pain, she bit her lip so hard a drop of blood appeared at the corner of her mouth. The young werewolf shot her a sympathetic look but she wasn't paying him any attention.
Sirius' hand lingered on her arm, she brought her fist up quickly, knocking it away and took several steps backward creating distance between them. Her wand was in her hand and pointed directly at his heart. Noelle looked at him as if looking at a stranger. As if she didn't even recognize him. Truth be told she didn't. Sirius Black had had many effects on her in his time; he'd annoyed her, angered her, frustrated her and attracted her sometimes all at once but she had never ever been afraid of him until now. Regulus suddenly stood up beside her, his wand bared too. "You... You've no idea," the words floated from her mouth. She turned to look at Regulus, "You're almost as bad as him," she spat, grabbing her bag from the back of her chair. "If I never see another Black in my life I'll die happy!" she hissed storming out of the pub.
It took a few seconds but eventually the sound of indistinct chatter began to fill The Three Broomsticks once more. "Remus," said Sirius quietly, the other boy nodded and followed him at a distance. "You are your own worst enemy you know that?" he said following him out the door.
---
Ned let out a low whistle as he leaned back in his chair. That was quite the show, Black, he commented internally. Perhaps not the best comment to make in front of Charlotte though, he didn't think it would be received well. He shook his head slowly, "I can't believe a man would ever handle a girl like that," he said in disgust. "They say Slytherin's the shithole," he tutted loudly. "Oh I'm sorry!" he added turning back to the beautiful girl beside him, " I don't mean to bad mouth your house, of course I know you're not like that. People like him give everyone a bad name," he scowled at the 6th year as he left the tavern. "That poor girl..."
He drummed his fingers on the table momentarily, contemplating what to do next. Eventually he sighed. "Charlotte, I'm sorry, I really am but can we cut this short?" he grimaced, "I can't just let this go. I need to talk to Regulus, I hope you understand. Can we see each other again soon?" He reached aut slowly and lightly brushed her fingertips that were resting on the table top with his own.
---
Noelle stormed away from the Three Broomsticks. Her hands folded across her chest, gaze cast down. Despite her calm exterior her heart was hammering in her chest, if she didn't know any better she would have said it was on the verge of exploding. How dare Sirius Black call her a whore! The nerve of it. Oh sure it was OK for him to appear in the common room every night, wrapped around a different bimbo but not her. She gets felt up once in a pub and he practically assaults her in front of two dozen people. She wouldn't mind if she really was the tart he made her out to be but after Nicholas she hadn't really being seeing anyone. Not publicly or for any great length of time. There had been the odd smooch behind a tapestry or two but nothing of consequence. After seeing them once or twice she'd realized there was no spark and moved on. In actual fact the only boy she'd kissed in the last three months was him. Well that wasn't going to happen again.
Someone then barged past her, knocking her shoulder. "Hey!" she snapped, glaring at the group of third years who had jostled her. "Cop on to yourselves!" she ordered angrily before continuing on her way. Her fury was so great that she didn't even hear the voice calling her name until it's owner gripped her arm to stop her in her tracks. "What?!" she asked drawing her wand quickly. "Hey, hey, hey! It's just us," said Lily Evans, her expression concerned. "What's up with you?" There wasn't the laughter and playful banter of this morning, she could see something was wrong. James was standing cautiously by her side, "Is something wrong?" he asked quietly, half-hoping he'd just be ignored. Noelle looked away biting back tears. Nodding she turned her head back to them, "Yes," she managed to say but her voice cracked. "What is it?" asked Lily placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. The blonde girl opened her mouth to speak but too afraid that she'd pleasc out crying she shut it again and just shook her head, tears brimming in her eyes.
"Come on, let's get out of here," said James nervously, leading them away toward a small alley of sorts. It wasn't exactly dark and damp, but it was quieter than the middle of the street and they were less likely to make a scene. They stood at the opening where they were still visible by passing students, but not so obvious that they would stop and stare. Hurriedly she explained to the pair what had happened in the tavern.

Sirius didn’t know why he’d reacted like he had. Said what he had said to her, in front of everyone. He wasn’t the kind of person that liked to air his dirty laundry in the public eye, but something in him had just snapped. The way his hand caressed her carelessly, the way she didn’t deny it, didn’t fight it. Had she liked it? He didn’t understand. Everything seemed so far away, voices echoes, the chatter a buzzing in the background. He’d never called anyone that – not to their face and not out of spite. Or jealously. The hole in his stomach deepened and he wanted it to swallow him up and spit him back out as a bag of bones. Sirius didn’t get jealous, or feel guilt. Was that self-pity? Merlin, what was happening?
As he left the pub, Remus behind him, he found his feet heavy, but his head light and he wanted to topple backwards into the dewy grass. Nothing felt right anymore, he didn’t feel good, and he couldn’t seem to cry. Though Merlin knew he wanted to, out of cheer frustration. Maybe if he went back and hexed the hell out of his fucking brother, just to make things feel better. His face contorted into an array of emotions until he slunked down against a fence, defeated by his own subconscious. And Remus didn’t say anything, but maybe that was worst of all. What was his best mate thinking? What shame was he feeling? Looking at the ground, Sirius spoke quietly. ‘Sorry, Moony.’ He didn’t apologise a lot, not sincerely, and it felt foreign coming from his throat. ‘You can go back in…’ he knew his friend wouldn’t. What for? To get hounded and stared at by the other students? None of his words sounded like something he’d say, and he wasn’t sure what to say next, but he said it anyway. ‘Maybe you should go back to Charlotte - don’t want her thinking we’re both guys who verbally abuse people we…’ he stopped them, abruptly and ran a hand through his shaggy hair. ‘Who knew women were so complicated? I think I’d rather date a dragon.’ His smile stretched – it even hurt – tightly, sliding into a grimace. Like. People we like. Sirius wouldn’t finish that sentence, did he need to?
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Charlotte watched the scene unravel, her stomach twisting, her mouth frozen in an ‘O’. How had this all collided so easily and so fast? The motions had passed from one to the other in a fraction of seconds; Lust to loathing, harboured feelings to hate. And what was she to do about it? This wasn’t her business, but weren’t they her friends? Were they… the question stung her, a question she shouldn’t be thinking. How dare she doubt them, what had they done wrong? But the way Ned sat beside her, so strong and charming; it made everything seem off kilter. So kind and assuring and safe, and yet everything she’d been told seemed to just trickle away. What was happening? He was talking now and as he watched her, she felt her pulse quicken, her fingers grip the edge of the table.
‘You have to go?’ her voice sounded small, lonely and pathetic. Was she pouting? The sadness made her eyes roll, but then his fingers were tracing over hers so gently she felt herself shiver. Something inside her squirmed with delight, butterflies smashing against her ribs. Nothing made sense, but it didn’t matter, because he was wonderful. ‘I’d like to talk again, if you like…’ pausing, she stood up herself, wavering on going after Charlotte or Sirius. Not that Sirius would want her help, but Remus… but then, if Ned liked her… did he? Did Remus… was this all her imagination? Swinging her bag over her shoulder, she smiled as he went to his friend. ‘Ned, I, er, hope Regulus is alright.’
Charlotte was halfway out of the door when she noticed Lily and James catching up with Noelle. Sirius and Remus had vanished, and here she stood, hovering under a wooden archway, nowhere to go. Suddenly she felt unwanted, neglected, and craved for someone to talk to. Now she’d had a taste of friendship, she didn’t want to be alone. Glancing over her shoulder, Regulus and Ned were shoulder to shoulder, talking. She couldn’t interrupt them.
When Charlotte was a kid, she wouldn’t play with the others. They had their own games and their own friends, and she felt intrusive. A big garden had been her fortress, with carved out arches and a wendy house painted baby pink down the bottom. It had been like a wonderland; weeds crawled freely, hedges were cut in specific designs, flowers crawled up the trellis, the pond inhabited fish and pond-skaters and frogs. The dogs would bury things everywhere and she’d help resurface them. The loungers would rest on the wooden area slatted where the sun hit just right. Her bedroom window would look down on one of the highest trees and she could climb down it and outside late at night. One night, a boy, Billy, had tried to climb up the tree to see her, but freaked out and got stuck midway. So Charlotte had climbed down to meet him and they’d sat, curled up in the branches until morning came and they both slowly slid down the trunk. That had been her first kiss, and it had been weird, sticky – he was eating something strange – and he’d tried to stick his tongue in her mouth and it felt like a worm. She’d almost pushed him out.
Things like that didn’t happen anymore. Things weren’t so naïve, and neither was she. Or was she? Was she naïve? Maybe it was time to change.

Wormtail huddled in the dark side alley, twisting his chubby hands, fingers lacing and unlacing, sweating. He was nervous, Severus Snape always had that effect on him – the way he loomed, so dark and outlandish. Robe stretched tight around his round body, Peter looked up into the cold eyes of the Slytherin. He didn’t look interested, in away at all, in fact, rather bored – like he’d rather be anywhere else but here with the Gryffindor chub. Dropping his hands, Peter glanced over his shoulder as a shadow passed by, blocking the sun. Students were floating around everywhere and his senses were reeling, just waiting to be detected by his friends for treason.
‘Are you sure you can actually handle this, Pettigrew? You’re ever so twitchy – scared of something?’ Severus drawled, rolling his eyes, fingers laced beneath his cloak. There was something about Peter Pettigrew that just irked him, how slimy he was, so unfaithful, so… pathetic. But he was good, he would help them, help Severus find out what he needed and do jobs that needed doing. Itching his forearm, idly, Peter almost jumped out of his skin and checked his own bare arm. Nothing. He wasn’t solicited into the group, just a little run-around, but oh, did it feel good to be wanted. No one had ever wanted him before, or trusted him, or let him do secret jobs.
‘You find out what they’re up to, Pettigrew. Potter and his gang, I can taste it.’ His voice was dark, dangerously threateningly from the bottom of his throat. Dark eyes twinkled with malice. ‘Tonight’s the full moon; we’ll see what this is all about.’
is that ok? do what you want c:

‘Those guys are up to something. I just know it.’ Sirius sighed, sipping his drink and watching as a gaggle of girls sauntered past, wiggling their hips and playing with their hair. A couple of them turned and stared at him, as if hoping he would bow his head in shame. And Sirius did just that, feeling a lump in his throat and his cheeks redden. They’d heard what he’d said to Noelle, and he wondered how long it would be before this all went away. Had this little outburst ruined his boyish charm forever? Glancing sideways at Remus’, he slung an arm over his pals shoulder and ruffled his hair. It flopped back into place as though it hadn’t been touched, and he couldn’t help but laugh. Everything about Remus was so damned perfect – even the scars seemed to suit him; they were part of him after all. A part of him that no one else knew of, and hopefully never would. The Wizarding would could be so cruel.
'I've never had such a crap week in my whole life.' he sighed, knowing that was a lie. Bad things had always happened, before he'd upped and left home, moving in with the Potters. But he had never felt so bad, for a fault he had caused and couldn't argue his way out of. For that split second, he had felt like he truly was a member of the Black family, and it scared him. ‘I’m sorry for getting you into it, Moony.’

Remus followed with a heavy heart, Sirius wasn't going to get away with that kind of outburst lightly. He rarely got angry, despite his rather violent and darker side Remus had quite a docile personality. He spent his entire life running around reigning in the terrible twins, unfortunately he hadn't been able to prevent this particular catastrophe. Too furious to speak he remained silent as they walked along until his friend could go no further. Just as he was about to open his mouth Sirius uttered the most sincere apology Remus had ever heard, from his mouth anyway.
Sighing Mooney shove his hands deep into the pockets of his robes. "Padfoot..." he started but Sirius wasn't finished. He shook his rugged head and slipped into a sitting position beside his friend. "Love?" asked Remus with a smile. " I don't love her...yet. I haven't known Charlotte long enough. Let's not get carried away." He picked up a blade of grass between his finger and thumb and began twirling it absent-minded. "My Gran used to say we were cruelest to the ones we loved and who loved us because we knew no matter what we said they'd still be there for us... Although, to be honest, I think you'd be wise to avoid Noelle for the rest of your life, especially seeing as you're quite attached to your genitals." He shouldered Sirius playfully.
"So... Are you going to tell me what that was all about? I'll have to face Noelle later and I'll need some sort of speech prepared so she doesn't hex me into oblivion just for being known as your friend."
___________________________________________________
Ned smirked. "You have to go?" She was officially under his thumb. He'd heard that same note of desperation a thousand times before. Girls who hated to see him leave. Girls who thought he loved them. Who thought they mattered. It was easy to manipulate the girls in this school. The majority of them were so wrapped up in themselves they never questioned his interest. And Charlotte, who always looked so lost, so alone, was easy pickings.
"I'd love to talk to you again Charlotte," he said smiling, looking a little taken aback, surprised in a good way. They loved it, made the girls think that Ned believed himself unworthy. All these small gestures just to disguise a few unsavory house traits. "Don't worry, I'll make sure he's OK," he smiled and before he had time to think about it he leaned in a gently stole a kiss form the corner of her mouth. "Take care Miss Kane," he whispered sweetly in her ear as he swept away from the table.

Lily listened carefully to her friends' story, her expression becoming angrier and angrier while James stood awkwardly to the side and descended steadily into guilt. Sirius was practically his brother after all. 'Bloody typical!' he thought darkly, the first time Lily willingly spends an afternoon with him and Sirius has to go start war. He wouldn't mind the last time he had left Noelle and Sirius alone together he'd tried to snog the face off her, now all of a sudden he was branding her a whore in the middle of a crowded pub. Merlin's beard, what was wrong with that boy. "You know what?" said James suddenly, two pairs of furious eyes rose to meet him, he took an instinctive step back, "I-I should really go and see what all of this is about," he offered already backing to wards the alley. "I'll see you later?" it was more of a request than a statement directed at Lily. "Hmm," she replied with a disapproving tone. Accepting that as a yes he grinned and turned the corner.
Noelle looked at Lily apologetically. "I didn't mean to ruin your day." Lily scowled, "Don't be silly, it wasn't your fault." Noelle nodded although she wasn't convinced. "Well...Regulus is his weak spot. Always has been. I know that, I should have... I don't know. I should have handled things better," she tossed her hands up in the air, hopelessly. "Back to the castle?" she asked the other girl, jerking her head in its general vicinity. Much to her surprise Lily hesitated, "Actually..." the other girl let out a groan, "I'm sorry but there's some school things I need to pick up. I need some new quills and parchment and I can't put it off another month!" Brett nodded, rolling her eyes, "Fine," she forced a small smile, "I'm going to head back. I'll see you later. Unless of course I run into Black, in that case I'll probably end up in Azkaban but I'll write to you!" she called as she made her way in the same direction James had turned while Lily walked the opposite way. Her tinkling laugh filled the air, "I'll come visit you. I'd even testify at your trial!" They laughed carelessly as they parted ways.
_________________________________________________
Noelle made her way quietly to the castle, keeping her head down. News spread quickly in this tight-knit community and already she was receiving some curious stares. To combat this she kept close to the edge of the road sometimes even disappearing into alleyways to avoid having to talk to someone. Just ahead she could see Ned and Regulus walking angrily away from the three broomsticks, in her direction none the less. She wasn't ready to meet them and so slipped silently into a small alley. After a few moments she began to hear voices.
Curiosity forced her deeper down the narrow path to see who it was, there was something familiar in the tone. A voice or voices she had heard before. Suddenly a large, huddled figure appeared before her. "Peter?!" she asked, shock etched across her face, "What on earth are you doing down here?" she asked. He, however, was just as shocked to see her there as she had been to see him. "N-N-Noelle!" he said with a jump, his nose twitching in the unattractive way that it did. "I- I was just- I-"
"He was just returning some notes he borrowed from me," said a cool, collected voice behind him, as from the shadows emerged Severus Snape. Noelle's eyes narrowed and one eyebrow shot up as she look at Severus and back to Peter. He looked at her with his wide watery eyes, so innocent, and nodded. Still unconvinced she relaxed. "If you need notes, Peter, you're free to borrow mine, you know that," she offered in a softer voice than she was used to using around the Marauders. He nodded, "Thanks!" with a lopsided smile, she clapped him on the shoulder as he scuttled past.
Her gaze then fell on the gangly Slytherin before her. "What were you doing with him anyway?" she asked, her brow furrowing. "That is none of your concern," he said in that steely tone. They had never gotten on very well, mostly because he was a cold bastard but they hadn't fought because both of them were close to Lily. "Perhaps I could help?" she said suddenly. He walked on, his long greasy hair rippled in the breeze. "I sincerely doubt it," he said between clenched teeth as he passed her. She turned to watch him go "I'm sure you want to get something on Sirius Black just as much as I do. And as a Gryffindor I have a lot more access to him than you do..." He paused and slowly his dark beady eyes met hers.
___________________________________________________
James planted himself down the other side of Sirius, "Oh yes Mooney, I'm so sorry Mooney, must be awful to have the girl you love hating you! I wonder how that feels!" he said sharply giving Sirius a dig in the ribs. "Do you have any idea how long I've been waiting to get some serious time with Lily Evans? Years! And the first day in my life I finally get her all to myself my stupid twating best friend decides to assault her stupid twating best friend!" He inhaled deeply, rant over and reached for whatever drink Sirius had in his hand, "So what happened? You realized your little brother had a better chance of getting in her knicker than you did?" he joked cockily.
Remus groaned. Just bloody brilliant. Now he was going to have to pull Sirius off James before he killed him and then he was going to have to find Noelle and convince her not to poison the pumpkin juice. And while all this was going he would love to meet up with Charlotte and find out if he still stood any chance at all with the girl of his dreams. Maybe Sirius was right, maybe they should all date a dragon.

"Excuse me, but what the fuck was that?" hissed Ned as he practically dragged Regulus from the Three Broomsticks. "Get your fucking hands off me!" replied the youngest Black tearing his arm from the other boys' grip. They glared at each other for a moment before regaining composure and continuing along their way. "Well?" asked Ned impatiently. "I've found it," said Regulus with a sly smile. "Found what?" "Sirius' button." "His what?"
Regulus sighed and began again as if explaining something really simple to a stupid child. "Brett! She is Sirius' button. She gets under his skin." "So? Fat lot of good that does us," he chuckled darkly, "He nearly killed you for feeling her up, imagine what he'd do if he knew we were blackmailing..." he trailed off suddenly understanding.
Regulus grinned broadly, "Exactly. Just imagine. And imagine what he might do to keep her from getting expelled, to keep her from harms way..." Ned laughed loudly, "That's bloody brilliant! Reggie, my man!" he laughed, ruffling his friends hair. "Oh how the plot thickens..."

For some reason, tonight Remus was more nervous than he had ever been about heading for the shrieking shack. Sirius had a rucksack, and James was munching on an apple as though their trip was the most casual thing in the world, albeit it being midnight and the beginning of a ripe, full moon. Sirius shifted the bag over his shoulder, glancing around the darkened common room, having distinguished the fire. There was no need for all this, but sometimes Sirius got a kick out of their adventures, and pretending it was something greater than it actually was provided a great rush of adrenaline. They’d done this trip enough times to know what to do, where to go, who to avoid and who was creeping around when. But after everything that had happened that day, all any of them really wanted to do was fall straight to sleep and not wake for a good couple of days. At least with the cover of nightfall they were free from glaring strangers and snide remarks that usually Sirius would deflect with a laugh or a threat with a swish of his wand. Right now, all he felt was empty and pathetic, and the urge to give up grew stronger.
Black’s didn’t give up, they fought – and as he had earlier, he still felt like a member of that pitying Black family he had struggled so hard to break from. That act, that word, that was Regulus, and yet it had escaped his mouth and it had been his hand that crossed Noelle’s cheek. James muttered something and his head cocked up, smirking as the boy winked back. They all needed the fresh air and the separation from the others. No one in this school knew the three of them better than one another did, and it made some of the shit of the day lift a little off his shoulders.
‘Ready for our little outing, Moony?’ Sirius grinned, glancing up at the clock that hung on the far wall by the fire. They had an hour until the moon would be fully raised in the sky, and seeing as none of them were really pumping and ready to do a sprint, they needed it.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Charlotte was heading towards the courtyard, glancing behind her every other second as she dipped in and out of the shadows, hair flowing over her shoulders. She wasn’t sure what to wear, or what to expect, but something pooled nervously in her stomach, and she wanted to laugh out loud at the madness of the whole situation. Ned – Ned had wanted to meet with her, in the middle of the night, after everything that had happened? But then she remembered his gentle touch and his kind words and how he’d stayed with her during the fight and gone to help his friend, like any respectable person would have done. He hadn’t hit Noelle, and he had come to find her, to see her again, whereas Remus was nowhere to be seen. For a while she’d felt shunned, but then she pulled on a dress, deciding if someone wanted her, she’d gladly give herself to them. The moon was muffled behind dusty clouds, struggling to break free and it almost looked beautiful.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Peter wasn’t with them, and they all figured he’d headed to bed. Lately he’d been straying from them, and although they trusted him as a friend, they could still go out. The threesome suited them better than the four, and it was easier and quicker without him tripping behind them. Running a hand through his shaggy hair, Sirius bounced down a spiral staircase hidden behind a tapestry and his feet danced against the concrete. What had put the sudden spring in his step? James caught his shoulder to slow him down as something flitted past just outside the tapestry opening. They could hear soft breathing and as someone passed, the bottom of the artwork swayed gently. Then the sound was gone again and all three stepped out into the night air.
'Are you doing alright, old friend?' he asked, throwing an arm around Remus' shoulder as they walked down a moonlight strip by the lawns.

The fear that she wouldn't wake in time had kept Noelle up all night. In her mind's eye she could already picture Snape slithering out of the dungeons. He was to wait for her in the secret passage way behind a tapestry of a Griffin clawing Toby the Timid to death. It was close to the Entrance Hall so that if she didn't manage to wake up in time he might still have a chance of catching the Marauders. She didn't fancy the idea of that greasy, sly boy following them in the dark, despite his less than enthusiastic promise that he wouldn't harm them.
Sighing she decided to take the plunge. As silently as she could the 6th year snuck out of her bed. It wasn't the first time she had done this and thus far none of the other girls in her dorm had woken. Already in her clothes she pulled a heavy cloak around her shoulders with a quick glance at the ominous looking night outside the window.
The common room was empty, her heart hammered as the thought that perhaps she was too late floated across her mind. However, no sooner had she thought it than she heard noises coming from the stairs to the boys dorm. She couldn't help but roll her eyes, boys. Could they do nothing quietly? Panicking she leaped across the room to the hiding place she had discreetly set up earlier on, hoping it hadn't been disturbed by the house elves. Luckily it was just as she had left it, two arm chairs, in the darkest corner wedged together with just enough room for her to crouch between them. Once hidden she slid a small side table across the front just to further obscure her position.
---
Remus sat quietly in one of their favorite chairs by the fire that James had just extinguished. He wasn't even listening to Sirius, his eyes were glazed over, staring into the back of the fireplace. Something felt wrong. There was something different about tonight, he just knew it. Of course he was being paranoid but as the saying goes, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you. He shook his head, as if the physical action could somehow dislodge these unpleasant thoughts manifesting in his brain.
"Hmm?" he asked turning to look at Sirius. "Oh." He forced a lop-sided smile. No matter how many times he snuck out to the shrieking shack the same sense of guilt encompassed his conscience. Guilt that he was breaking the rules. Guilt that he was endangering his friends. Guilt that he was breaking his promise to the Headmaster that had risked everything just to let him through the gates. "Ready as I'll ever be," he replied, trying not to display the utter despair he was experiencing. "C'mon," he nodded his head to wards the portrait of the Fat Lady. "We should probably get moving. Of course if you'd rather stay behind that's fine..." he trailed off, not meeting his friends' eyes. He had to try and tempt them to stay even if they continued to refuse.
---
The full moon glistened off the damp grass. The Forbidden Forest looked fiercer than ever with this eerie glow that seemed to illuminate every tree and shrub and yet it somehow created deeper, longer and more foreboding shadows too. Shadows that clawed viciously from the forest, like a crack in the very earth, rippling to wards the castle. Ned shuddered. This was why he never visited the Forest on a full moon. Anyone raised in a wizarding family knew better than to go wandering around outside at night on a full moon, or a fool-moon, as his mother would call it. It was magical and mysterious, powerful but dangerous. He would have left it until a later time but he needed to ensnare her heart while he still had the upper hand. Remus Lupin did not share his gift with words but he was kind and sweet natured. And when it came to personality Ned knew he didn't compare.
Before too long he heard footsteps lightly treading across the cobblestone courtyard. From this distance he could only make out a darkened silhouette but it was enough. It was her, Charlotte. When she was close enough for him to surprise her the Slytherin stepped from the shadows provided by the castle wall and offered the beautiful young girl his arm. "And what, my Lady, brings you out here on such a fine evening?" he asked, grinning broadly. His hand reached out and gently brushed her cheek. His eyes bored into hers, "I am so glad you came," he said finally.
---
"I would have been better off on my own," said Severus Snape darkly. He had been hiding behind this bloody tapestry for Merlin knows how long and the Brett girl still hadn't appeared. He should have known. Gryffindors, although brave, were loyal and stupid. They didn't have any inclination of what was in their best interests even if he was staring them in the eyes.
"Perhaps," said a voice from the other side of tapestry causing the boy to jump. "But then you wouldn't know that James Potter, Remus Lupin and Sirius Black were on their way to the Entrance Hall as we speak, would you?" Asked Noelle raising a smug eyebrow and she slipped into the small space that was far too confined for her comfort. If Sirius could see her now, she thought, all cozied up with Severus Snape. Snape opened his mouth to retort but she shushed him, "Give them two minutes to get out the doors ahead of us and then we'll follow ok?" He nodded reluctantly and slipped into silence. It was destined to be an eventful evening.
